Hi

I wondered if anyone knew if, if you are prescribed Clomid when you ovulate regularly, your chances of multiple births increased. Also, has anyone been prescribed Clomid when they ovulate naturally and had success? I would be really interested to know as I started my first course today.

also, my gyn first tried the dye test, then the Clomid, and she says our next step would be considering having hubby do his thing in a cup and they spin it around or something and they insert it into the cervical area.

My hubby was sent for the sperm analyses first thing too.

Problem is, most doctors won't give Clomid until you've been tryign for a year. I had a gp for the first 10 months of trying until I got my referral for the obgyn. Maybe she would've prescribed other things first, but perhaps due to my longer time trying, she went straight to Clomid.

beanieb · 01/01/2009 16:39

ssn my GP mentioned the sperm washing (spinning) thing to me so hopefully we will be offered that too.

I have been trying over a year so am relieved I now have an appointment to see a specialist.

MrsHappy · 01/01/2009 16:40

Beanie - you're in the UK, aren't you? I am, and my fertility guy has done a load of other checks (still ongoing), following which we will be doing clomid with monitoring and maybe IUI. From hanging about on the conception threads it looks like a pretty normal course is (i) blood tests and sperm test (ii) HSG (and sometimes a scan) and maybe hysteroscopy, and then, if all of that indicates that clomid is the way to go that is what they try, sometimes with artificial insemination if there is a problem with the sperm that suggests they need some help getting where they need to be. My experience is that doctors like doing tests since it arms them with the fullest possible info so I can't imagine that any doctor would not want to check that your plumbing was working first.

The tests can (as you might expect) take a bit of time because they need doing at the right point in your cycle. For example, I had my first appointment in October, an HSG in December and am having a hysteroscopy later this month (following which I may well have to take a short break from ttc), but at least things are moving in the right direction...

Think its standard to try clomid first off. But its not always suitable for everyone to take even if there are (as in my case anyway) ovulation problems.

However, if there is definitive proof that you are ovulating regularly through blood tests and ultrasounds and they still want to try this then I would ask why.

I would also ensure that you have both been adequately investigated to date particularly if there is still no diagnosis. Sometimes tests can get missed out.

It is possible to have a HSG - this is a tubal x-ray done whilst you are awake. This can tell the person whether your tubes are patent (open) and is a useful test to have. It can give information not usually accessible by other methods.

Thanks MrsHappy and Attila.

Bucky2008 · 01/01/2009 18:39

Hi all, I wondered the same thing myself hence starting this thread. I had a Lap and Dye and Day 3 and Day 21 bloods but nothing medically wrong was found. DP's tests were fine too. The fertility clinic prescribed the Clomid saying it should better my odds. Apparently better quality and possible increase in number of eggs should increase the chances even though I appear to ov normally.

I have had 2 MCs in the last 2.5 years so I know I can concieve, I am hoping that if there is something dodgy with my eggs rather than a genetic abnormality causing the MCs this will sort it out? Having said that only getting pg twice in 31 months is pretty dismal too...so I think I need the help on fertility terms too!

Interesting what Attila said about the Clomid having the opposite effect in some cases, this is the first I have heard about that...maybe I should Google some afterall .

Oh thank you Bucky it's good to get an idea of what happens and in what order.

Sorry to hear about your 2 MCs. Do you know what your Luteal Phase was like?

Good luck with the clomid. The 2WW is a pain isn't it?

Bucky2008 · 01/01/2009 20:08

I had an 11 day LP so not too bad. What about you Beanie?

OP posts:
beanieb · 01/01/2009 21:18

Mine is anything from 8 - 11 days. I took agnus castus for a while and it got longer but I stopped in preparation for my appointment.

This TTC lark is just such a pain, but I know so much more about what might be wrong with me than I ever did before. I just hope the appointment gives me some answers.

Hiya

bumping this because I wondered if anyone here had been to their fertility appointment and if anything had been prescribed?

My appointment is imminent and I am still a bit concerned (specially since researching IVF Wales online) that they may just put me straight onto Clomid.

Any developments for anyone?

lynn76pink · 23/01/2009 23:09

Hi,

I have used clomid twice now, first time I fell pregnant after the 3rd month on clomid, this time I maybe pregnant after the 1st month on clomid.

I will be doing my test tomorrow but all the signs are there, missed period, sickness wtc..

My only concern is that I have had some brown discharge, very pale and a little clear discharge but with stringy red blood....concerned that I am having a miscarriage or maybe just going to have a period!

Helloo.....oopsIstuffedaturkey!!!!! You wrote that you got pregnant on clomid 100mg. How long were you taking clomid? And what dose did you take each month? And what day were you ovulating? Did you take ovulation predictor kits? I would like to know all this... for I am on clomid 100mg. Thank you!!

pinkie08 · 27/01/2009 09:29

Hi all,

there are so many of us on clomid its quite amazing but the original thread was how successful it is when you ovulate regularly.

Yesterday i went for my consultation with fertility specialist as all my test results are back.

Firstly, thank goodness everything is ok, no abnormalities for me or dh, just unexplained infertility.

AFter looking at my amh levels which is based on ovary reserves it has shown that is fine too, which is why the clomid has had no affect.

My next step is IVF starting in a few days.

Good luck to all of you

Wish you all lots of luck

Bucky2008 · 27/01/2009 20:38

Thanks for the update Pinkie. My next appointment is in April if the Clomid does not work. I guess I will have to wait and see if I get the same response.

Good luck. Please let us know when you get your BFP!!

Hoping consultant prescribes clomid, am not sure I'm ovulating as cycle is completely up the spout! Good luck to you all

BrandyBaby · 28/01/2009 23:24

Hello ladies!!!

I was on birth control pills for exactly 6 years. After being off for 6 months my hubby and I started ttc. I was put on Clomid 50mg for 4 months... nothing happend. Now this is my first month on Clomid 100mg.

Has anyone had twins while taking clomid 100mg??

Baby dust to all!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clure · 30/01/2009 20:24

Does clomid help you ovulate? I know it helps produce more eggs, is this the same thing?

BrandyBaby · 30/01/2009 23:54

I was ovulating even before I started taking clomid.. and clomid helps for the mature eggs to release. I was just wondering if you knew... when a woman reachs over the age of 35, her chances of multiple births. So good luck to you!

*I think you should start taking ovulation predictor kits. Start asap and then you will be able to see if youre ovulating. You can get them at any drug store.

BABY DUST TO ALL!!!!

Clure · 31/01/2009 09:38

AM using ov predictors, only prob for me is that if I start using them around 14 days after my period and I don't have another period for 2 or 3 months - that's an awful lot of predictors to go through. I'm kind of using them sporadically also trying to look out for the other signs of ovulation too then using predictors. It was so much easier first time round as periods were roughly every month!

BrandyBaby · 01/02/2009 01:14

Clure
Well keep trying! I start taking the opks on day 9 until day 16. good luck!!!

Clure · 02/02/2009 17:22

Best of luck to you Brandybaby fingers crossed for you x
