I have been told that my cervix is pointing down ,is this a good ,bad or insignificant fact when you are trying to concieve ?

I believe it's only significant if you have one of those that points really far backwards... in that case, there are certain positions that make it easier for sperm to pool around the cervix and get where they are meant to go. Do you mean backward/ posterior when you say your cervix points down? "Down" to me suggests it just points, well, inferior, as in, down toward the floor when you're standing, in which case it probably has no bearing on your ability to conceive because it would be easily accessible to sperm.

(wanting to help but not sure that was helpful emoticon)

tengreenbottles · 10/12/2008 17:18

the lady who examined me didnt really say much more than a slightly suprised oh its pointing downwards ,although in the past i have been told i have a very helpful cervix !! Not sure what to make of that either

Helpful in the sense that it probably wasn't pointing backwards like mine so your GP or whoever didn't have to go chasing it or prop your arse up on three pillows to be able to visualize it... this makes smears a bit difficult

tengreenbottles · 10/12/2008 17:30

Just incase she meant backwards ,what are the best posistions for capturing sperm!

Three pillows (or however many you need, maybe one or two is enough, LOL) under your butt during and ten mins after sex so sperm pools in the posterior fossa (end of the vagina where the cervix is).
Good luck!!

tengreenbottles · 10/12/2008 19:59

many thanks jacksfirst ,it could be worse my friend had her cervix described as 'cumbersome'

What jacksfirstchristmas said - also any rear entry position very good for cervixes not in the usual position. Also ... if you can, have an orgasm after your DP has ejaculated - proven to help suck up more of the sperm!

JacksFirstChristmasMama · 10/12/2008 20:25

"cumbersome".... WTF?

Was going to suggest rear-entry too but personally hate it, I find it uncomfortable but hey-ho, everyone's different

Good point on the orgasm after DH ejaculates thing... sometimes hard to do without hurting their feelings... but yes, it does help.

Victorian!!
Sheesh, my typing sucks!!
But at least today I'm on the right thread...
had one of those "shit, wrong thread!!" moments yesterday, LOL.

well 'my' cervix is friggin knakkered after losing 2 Mirena coils!!!
got a tilted womb and a prolapse too.
I was at the back of the queue when God dished out fannys!

MincePirateCat · 10/12/2008 20:30

i think my cervix has a u bend in it now

JacksFirstChristmasMama · 10/12/2008 20:31

Oh poor you!! Did that hurt, losing the coil?

I should probably speak of my extremely posterior cervix in the past tense... my pelvic floor suffered during DS's horribly mismanaged birth and while I don't have a prolapse per se, my cervix hangs down much more than before... when I went for my first smear after his birth (after much delay and gritting of teeth) my lovely GP took a look and said, "well now, this will be easier in future won't it"...

evenmoremiserablethanbefore · 10/12/2008 20:39

I had terrible back pain in the weeks before it came out,but I didnt actually feel it coming out of my flu...it just appeared sticking out of a large 'thing' in my knickers! {sorry,tmi}
more painful being put in...but it was worth it to stop my horrendous heavy periods
dont know what to do now....2nd Mirena only stayed put for 3 months

JacksFirstChristmasMama · 10/12/2008 20:42

Ewwww... that sounds awful!!!
No TMI here, don't worry - we're talking about rear-entry FGS!

Ruby01 · 11/12/2008 09:42

I was told i have an exceptionally 'long' cervix- smear tests are horrible

ilovemcdreamy · 11/12/2008 13:37

Actually, speaking of smear tests I had my first comfortable one ever last year at a family planning clinic. Doc examined me without speculum first, announced my vagina was v long and therefore cervix quite far away, said she was going to use an extra long speculum and hey presto - painless smear! When I had to have another a few months later that I wouldn't let the doctor do it until he went to get a long speculum! Made all the difference.
