Want to start TTC but still no period

I posted in breast feeding but haven't had much response so thought I would try here

I am still BF DS who is now 13 months and am happy to continue. DH and I would like to start ttc again but I still don't have my period. I am not sure if this is because I am bf or not. I have had some issues with an eating disorder and until recently was underweight. I am now just back in the healthy weight range and am continuing to work with a dietician to sort myself out.

Before I was pregnant with DS I was at the weight I am now and was having a period so I just don't know if my body wants me to put on more weight or if it is because I am still bf that my period has not returned yet.

Did other people not have their period after 13 months? Just wondering how common that is.

I still don't have regular periods after stopping bf dd2 who is now 2.4 (stopped when she was about 16m, IIRC)

You could still be ovulating though

Check for other signs of ovulation and plan accordingly (cervical mucous is the most obvious one, I think)

Hi,

I'm still BFing my 2.5 DD, and no signs of a period. I went to docs yesterday and having blood tests on Thurs. I think it is due to BFing, some people are really sensitive to prolactin levels. I think my prolactin levels are just too high for me to be able to produce oestrogen. You can still ovulate at any time and would not be aware you have (unless you chart and observe)until you get your period 12-16 days (average 14 days) later. Hence you cannot rely on LAM for contraception. I've been charting for 2 months now, and taking Agnus Castus. I have now seen a drop in my milk production, and an increase in cervical mucus. I think it will now be a matter of time before I ovulate. You are not alone but we are in the minority. 6 or 8 percent (ish) of women don't get their periods back after two years. As you can imagine after nearly 2 and a half years of this situation, I've done a lot of research and a heck of a lot of waiting!!! I wanted a 3 year gap, but now I don't care, it will happen when it's meant to. Well that's what I tell myself.

So it could be the breastfeeding then. DH is convinced it is the weight/eating issue that has caused this. I suppose it could be a combination of both.

I am still bf my 14mo DS and I have still not got my periods back - in the same situation as DH and I would like to ttc. I have had problems in the past with periods due to the fact that I have polycystic ovaries so I am not sure if it is the bf or Pcos why mine haven't returned.

I just got my first period since dd2 was conceived (she is 21m).
She still feeds all the time so you don't necessarily have to stop bf to conceive it may just take a while. Good luck!
