Hello Ladies, I'm just after a bit of info from you all. My cousin is trying for a baby but her periods are all over the place and I've read somewhere on the wonderful Mumsnet that there is a herbal medicine you can take to help make them regular but of course I can't find it now.
I'm feeling a bit awkward as I made the official announcment to everyone this week that I'm expecting again and said it only took one attempt to which she replied 'oh you lucky thing' and then told me how much trouble they're having.
So ladies any advice I can pass on will be gratefully recieved. Thanks

Can't really offer much except a little encouragement. I've always had heavy and irregular periods. My 1st child was concieved on the first attempt, and my second on the second!

I'm sure someone else will post something far more helpful, but I just thought I'd share. Congratulations on your pregnancy, by the way

I sympathise with your cousin as I have exactly the same problem. It took me 8 years to conceive with the exception of 1 m/c. If it's any comfort my periods "stopped" 7 months before DS was conceived and I've only had 2 since he was born and he's 17 months! Afraid I've never heard of any herbal medicine to make them regular but I tried all sorts of stuff from the doctors - nothing worked. Gave up worrying in the end and now I have the most wonderful son! Though I might be tempted to try a herbal remedy if my periods come back with a vengence. ;-)

Congratulations on your pregnancy BTW.

Agnus Castus if the herbal stuff. I too have irregular periods and saw the doctor who said you can take pills to regulate your cycle but you should stop trying to conceive for a few months first. I didn't want to stop so refused the pills on this occasion. How about trying ovulation tests - can buy them cheap on the internet?

i have irregular periods and have had a lot of success with homeopathy even though i am quite sceptical about it.

Bluestar, thanks for that info, now I've got another question for you! She said she has used ovulation kits but found them expensive, where have you found them on the internet? I still quite new to the whole computer thing so wouldn't have a clue where to start looking.
Thanks again.

EmmaTMG - I too have very irregular (and long) periods and found it hard to conceive. Am very happy to say that I am now pregnant (just!) and delighted. I was advised on another thread to try out the ovusoft.com website as a non-intervention method of helping sort you out! It is really good and worked for me. It is a little scientific and some might be put off by that, but I am convinced. It is all down to charting temps and watching out for the mucus change (sorry, little gruesome I know). I realised that I had been predicting all wrong and that I ovulate much later than the nornal 14 days before my period, this system helped me predict more accurately and first time round hey presto! Worth a look anyhow. Good Luck to her - I know how frustrating it can be.

Emma - you can get the kits much cheaper than the high street chemists from here

I have had 3 periods since stopping breastfeeding of 33, 34 and 36 days which is really frustrating given I am ttc quickly. From reading this thread and others on the conception bit, it seems this is not unusual. Any tips on getting it right would be gratefully received!

EmmaTMG, sorry it has taken a while to reply. I have found them on www.pregnancytesting.freeserve.co.uk but I think that if you put in ovulation tests / pregnancy tests on www.ask.co.uk there are other suppliers. I have always found them very efficient at dispatching (next day) and no problems with money etc. I bought the last batch in bulk and started testing last week and the first day it went positive which would indicate a much shorter cycle this time, however, am still testing as it could have been a false surge. Good luck x
