I suffer from endometriosis. I have been TTC for 3 months now. This is the first time in a very long time i have had to endure a monthly period and i am really strugling to deal with the pain. When i last spke to my consultant she said i could only take paracetamol or mefenamic acid. The only thing that i find helps the pain at all is maximum strength ibprofen. I am going to make an appointment to talk to Dr but it will likely be a couple of weeks before i get in so thought i'd ask on here too! What is safe to take while TTC and what is safe to take during your period? Can i take ibuprofen then or not at all?? If paracetamol is as good as it gets i don't think i can do this I just can't deal with that amount of pain for 2-3 weeks out of every 4.

Thanks in advance!

fairywing,

You have my sympathies; endo is truly a PITA if you pardon the expression.

How knowledgeable is your cons actually re endo?. It is fair to say that some gynae cons are far better than others when it comes to dealing with endometriosis.

I would also have a look at www.endo.org.uk as they can be helpful as well.

I would imagine that if you have your period then you are okay to take painkillers as you aren't pregnant (well very unlikely). The main time to be careful is after ovulation and in the two week wait.

But I know sometimes with endo the pain can be throughout the month- not sure about then.

Good luck though.

My consultant seems to be pretty good. The ibuprofen is the only thing that touches the pain but i have been reading that it makes the lining of the womb unfavourable for implantation and several other things that make pregnancy unlikely. I just don't know how long before ov'ing that is a problem for. I am taking them at the moment and am on CD3. Will chat to my Dr about all of this.

Thanks for your help.

I read the side effects bit on a nurofen packet and it said that it may cause temporary infertility in women. It does not say why. FYI, mefenamic acid has some stonking side effects too, including headaches. My friend was taking it and for the last 18 months has had corking headaches. I got prescribed it too and googled it to see that particular side effect (my pill bottle came without leaflet) I tld her, she stopped taking it and although her tummy pains worsened, the headaches eased off.

i get bad headaches and only nurofen plus works. I take it when AF is athere and the week after but not around ovulation and up until AF comes again. I have a splitting headache today but am not taking anythig although i am dying to shift it with some pills. I am hnging out until bedtime. However now i read make cause temporary infertlity i may stay off them for good . x

Hi fairywing,

I take a painkiller called Tramacet it has tramadol and paracetamal in it. I have a condition called pelvic venus Congestion and get very bad pains all though the month although i try very hard not to take too many in the 2ww but it doesnt have any known adverse effects on fertility of course there is a risk if you are PG but only a very small one from what i can make out and from what doc has said.

Perhaps you should speak to the doc as i have found it is much better than nurofen at killing pain and you dont need as many.

Hope this helps
