Hi, This is my first month using Ov sticks, yesterday I had a faint 2nd line and today the same but a bit darker, I know this is classed as a negative but does this generally mean I will get a line that will darker and darker until a positive or can you get these faint lines at any time?

I know alot of Mnetters arent fans of Ov testing but Im willing to try anything, so any advice would be helpful

Normal to get two lines, the colour is irrelevant unless it is a positive result. Mine seemed to vary quite a lot.

I found them very useful in working out my funny cycles, but much preferred the digital ones which are a lot easier to interpret.

SesHasapinkline · 12/09/2008 18:38

I agree - digital ones definintely easier to interpret.
Also make sure you test between 10am and 8pm - ideally around 3pm each day for the most accurate result. (It took me about a year to realise!)

My lines have been getting darker as the days have gone on mischief, if that helps? I used to test in the morning about 7am then heard not to until at least after 10am at least, whoops! I always got negs then a pos on days 13 or 15 doing them then though, praps this is why I'm not pregnant yet! D'oh... Good luck with the piddle sticks!

dinkyboysmum · 12/09/2008 20:32

defo use the digital ones...much easier to interpret. i read you should always test in the afternoon (i.e. not first thing in the morning) as O 'may' be triggered by sunlight!?

littlemissmischief · 13/09/2008 09:09

Thanks for all your help, I have been testing around 3ish everyday and have been using them for about 20 days so far and this the first time I got two lines but obviously still a negative but hoped that meant I was leading up to a positive, we have been BD every day or other day anyway just incase

Does anyone know where is the best place to get the digital ones and roughly how much they are?

Thanks x

The cheapest I've seen is in Tescos. However, keep an eye on Boots and Superdrug as they'll often do a promo on all Clearblue products.

littlemissmischief · 13/09/2008 09:21

thanks binkythebullet will have a look

I think the reason many people don't like to recommend that you rely on OV sticks alone is because they are difficult to use and difficult to interpret.

Not all women will have a high enough 'surge' yet will ovulate as normal, whereas other women may get positives for much or all of the month but still have underlying problems.

From my experience, I used the ebay cheap ones in parallel with 'normal' symptom-spotting. I was testing around 2-3pm each day and, once I got a darker (but not +ve) line I tested before bed as well. I got my +ve at about 10pm at night and it was -ve again the next day - had I not done the extra testing I wouldn't have seen it at all .

I didn't get pregnant. What it did, though, was make me confident that I was spotting the right symptoms (egg white mucus, cervical position, etc) and I actually fell pregnant after stopping the OV sticks.

Hope that helps.

binkythebullet · 13/09/2008 09:32

That's spot on Teuch. Blink, and I'd miss my LH surge; it really is only there on the digital sticks for about 12 hours I reckon (well for me anyway).

I think there is a danger with OV sticks that they introduce more worry rather than make things easier. I worry that I am starting to over-engineer TTC!

Teuch · 13/09/2008 09:36

I don't think there is anything wrong with knowing the workings of your own body, and making TTC less of a mystery

The problems arise when women think that they have to do all of the engineering (as you aptly call it!) and that somehow you can be good or bad at it...

Good luck all!

This ovulation seems really confusing. 1st time for me using them as 1st 2 children within 1 motnh of trying. It seems that people are saying the line doesn't have to be a dark as the control line like it says on the packet. Is this right as i thought i should be ovulating now and my last 3 sticks have a faint line and not as bold as the control line so i thought i wasn't ovulating. However i had been doing them 1st thing in morning as it said to allow 4 hours after last wee!! maybe i should try tonight but i can't remember when last went to toilet. Is 4 hours critical does anyone think??

dustyb · 30/09/2008 10:04

Did ovulation test last night to check and the line came up strong . My LH surge has suddenly come on over the day i assume. Did another this morning just to see whether it would be pos in the morning and it is so the sticks are accurate. Problem is my husband has gone away for few days and now i am on CD15 with probably no chance of BD. If the ovulation kit says i am about to ovulate that will be around CD16 or CD17. We BD on CD13 is there are chance still even though not BD on actual conception?
