Hello there I was just wondering if anybody has successfully conceived even though they only had one fallopian tube which unfortunately was badly damaged?

My MIL has only one fallopian tube as result of an ectopic pregnancy.

18 mths after the ectopic she had my DH. A 14 mth gap and then DH's brother was born. A 16 mth gap and another brother came along

One fallopian tube - that would be me. The remaining one is still pretty intact though, hence DD who is now 18 months. Fell first try with her, am TTC again now, 3rd cycle and still no luck.

Lost the other one due to torsion - it twisted round on itself and cut off the blood supply. Was swollen to the size of an orange before they got it out - and OWWWWW!

oo nasty experience lionstar you poor thing!

i am TTC no 1 and have been told by my gynaecologist that one of my tubes is blocked but she can see no reason why i shouldnt get PG (i am 35 too so no spring chick) also my friend found out after she had 2 kids that she only has one ovary.

so all sounding positive littlestressed so good luck and positive vibes!

Hi, Thank you for replying so quickly! With your MIL's remaining tube, was it damaged or ok? I had an eptopic recently whereby one of my tubes had to be removed. I have been told my remaining tube is also damaged and am risk of another eptopic but have been told there is a slight chance I could conceive sucessfully.

Not me but a good friend - after eptopic

PeppermintPatty · 09/09/2008 22:20

I also only have one ovary and one fallopian tube, and conceived DD with no problems.

But as far as I know the other fallopian tube is in good nick, so I can't help you with that.

Good luck though

Thank you all for your replies. I am new to this so learning on the shorthand!

Oh that sounds painful Lionstar.

I have been TTC no2 since my first no1's 2nd birthday who is now four without much success. Now with only one tube left and the possibility of having to have it removed to prevent it from damaging my ovaries I am starting to worry i won't be able to have another child naturally.

I have a friend who's tubes were blocked and she had a lap and dye and then within two months conceived her little boy so I have my fingers crossed for you summerbird.

My friend had several miscarriages, then they found a problem (cyst?) on a tube which they removed. She then conceived and has a lovely son now

Ouch Lion !

Also raising a hand to join the one-tube club. Lost my right one to an ectopic with first pg. Then conceived ds almost straight away. Had a couple of mc's after, but they're just bad luck (blighted ovum and CP) rather than anything to do with the tube.

I knew that the other tube was OK as it was checked during the surgery, I'm afraid that I don't know of anyone who has one remaining damaged tube, but I hope that it works out for you.

Salpingectomy - a word that you never thought you'd need to know .

TheUNITUBER · 14/09/2008 10:52

Slight hijack (sorry)

Can I ask how long you were all advised to wait after the surgery before trying to conceive again? My doctor was pretty vague. Not that I'm up to it yet (only had the op on Wednesday!) but I do want to get on with things sooner rather than later...
Thanks

Littlestressed: My sister conceived her DD sort of unplanned ... and then as she was already 36 she and her DP started trying straight away for baby #2 (when my DNiece was 4 months). They had no luck at all for ages and then my DSis went to have a check to see what was going on and they found that one of her tubes was completely blocked and the other was adhered to her Caesarian scar (so useless too) AND she had endemetriosis. They told her that it was pretty miraculous that she even conceived her first. They sorted out the endemetiosis and the detached the 'good' tube but said that one was damaged and her chances were slim .
My sister tried for another 2 years and then sort of gave up trying as she was now 40. A few months later DSis found out she was pg and I am pleased to report that my beautiful niece was born when her sister was 5 years and 3 months old.

Hi, I had one tube removed after an ectopic, and after 18 months of trying started investigations. Had a lap and dye and 4 months later conceived naturally (one month before starting treatment). Am now 20 weeks.

This is an old thread but I want to add the story of a woman I met in an Early Pregnancy Clinic. She'd suffered two ectopic pregnancies then went on to have two children. The day I met her she was undergoing a scan to see if her third pregnancy was in the right place. The scan revealed it was and that the egg had come from the right ovary where there was no tube. Apparently the left tube had swung around to pick up the egg and voila - third baby! This was great news for me, as I was at the same clinic dealing with an ectopic in which I lost a tube.
