TTC but only have periods every 4 months!

I already have a d.5 yo dd and fell pregnent with her first try. But now having problems as have such irregular periods. Has anyone else had the same problem, or does anyone have advice?

If you are only having periods every four months then I would go to the doctor, it could be that you are not ovulating for some reason.

Yeah I'm going this afternoon. I came off the pill in October and have been having problems since then. I keep being told that theyw ill go back to normal but now I want another baby I think its best to find out the problem. Do you know what treatments they use for this problem?

erm - could you have PCOS? Seems like 10 months is a long time to be waiting for your periods to get back to normal. Am not sure what reatments you can have but I would let the doctor know what your periods were like before and tell her you would like to have some tests - blood tests to start with as they might identify a problem which could then be further investigated.

Jessiesmummy - it is quite possible that you have some sort of secondary subfertility - it's a lot more common than people realise. Here is the Verity website which has loads of info about PCO and PCOS; it might be a good idea to read up on it before you go to your dr as many of them don't seem to know much about it! Remember tho that this is only one of the possible reasons why your periods haven't come back yet.

You can have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like. As your periods are irregular such a blood test can be done according to calendar days. They should be able to do a blood test on the 3rd of the month - this would measure your LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) levels - both of these would need to be compared against one another.

PCO may well be the underlying cause for this problem; it is a common cause of irregular periods along with thyroid problems.

Good luck at the GP's. I have very irregular periods and find that acupuncture is really effective at getting them more regular. I have used it once when ttc with great results - conceived 1st attempt and am now using it again as ttc #3.

Having blood tests and wont find out anything for 2 weeks. Feeling nervous now.
