Medical mystery - no periods for 6 months and not PCOS!

I'm hoping one of you clever ladies may be able to help shed some light on what on earth might be going on with my body...

I'm 29 with a BMI of 20 (have always been slim and I do eat well!). I came off the pill (dianette) at Christmas, had a period in early January then nothing since. GP said in March if no periods by June then to come back. In the meantime my skin has turned oily and a bit spotty and I have had really bad mood swings and my CM has pretty much disappeared . TBH I've felt a failure as a woman for most of this year...

I went back to the GP beginning of this month and had blood tests for Progesterone, FSH, LH and thyroid and got referred to a gynae who I saw this week (who confirmed 6 months with no periods - even after being on the pill for ages - was not normal).

Bloods all came back "on the borderlines of the normal ranges" but they want to repeat the thyroid test as that was sightly elevated apparently. Have had internal ultrasound this week where the radiographer thought that it looked as though I'd just ovulated on the right side and lady radiographer said I deffo do not have PCOS as the ovaries were 5mm.

Am currently waiting for follow up appointment with the gynae to discuss the scan and treatment options but just wondered if anyone could shed some light on what might be going on? Has anyone else been through anything similar? Thanks for reading

Hiya I can't offer an answer for this but I'm similar. I have had irregular periods for a long time sometimes going 8 months without one. I haven't seen a doctor about it as I'm not TTC but I did get pregnant during one of my missing periods stages (about 4 mths in). Sorry I can't help more but you are not alone in having this.

The Radiographer to my mind should not have made such a snap diagnosis like this. What if she is wrong?.

A "normal" sized ovary is about the size of a walnut, polycystic ovaries can appear larger than normal size. Also the cystic follicles associated with PCO can and do disappear only to be replaced by further cystic follicles. They can also be very small and hard to spot.

What blood test results came back, were the levels of LH and FSH compared against one another?. What thyroid level was elevated? Did they explain these properly?. (Sorry for all the questions!). BTW Dianette is often given to women who present with PCO due to its anti androgenic qualities.

You primarily need the gynae's opinion on the matter. You need to be seen asap!.

what about endometriosis? that normally makes periods heavy but i think i can do the opposite?

Endometriosis is not normally seen on ultrasound scans as these deposits are very small. Its often diagnosed only through laparoscopy.
