How long did it take you to get pregnant? Did you do anything different the month you conceive?

Ovulation sticks really help, as you will know exactly when is the right time to do the deed.
Nothing else helped apart from that.

Minasama · 17/08/2026 22:01

Nine months, then over two years before I kept the pregnancy (miscarriages.)

Both times, we’d decided it wasn’t going to happen, to give up and not worry about it. I’ve heard the same from so many couples.

almondcroissant777 · 17/08/2026 22:03

Have just reached 7 months which includes coming off birth control and feeling like it’s never going to happen.

Solidarity, OP. My sixth cycle trying ended today.

For the past three cycles I've been using ovulation strips and tracking BBT. This has shown that we were slightly off with timing in the first three cycles.

We've decided today to look into private fertility tests. Just to put our minds at rest.

7 months for me to get pregnant, miscarried that pregnancy and got pregnant 2 months later which resulted in a healthy baby

LittleGreenShoots · 17/08/2026 22:48

It took me over a year to conceive. We got pregnant the second month of Covid lockdowns. I think it was likely the reduced stress from being away from my toxic work environment, or the increased sleep which made the difference.

Welph · 18/08/2026 07:26

5 years still trying. Have technically conceived a few times but all ended in miscarriage or missed miscarriage.

laesosalt · 18/08/2026 07:27

This cycle, I’m going into the fourth…

Mooselander · 18/08/2026 07:28

Both times we conceived on the first try, we were very lucky.

Don’t stress it - stress makes it take longer to conceive. You need to be relaxed.

Ragatha · 18/08/2026 07:30

The first time, just the once, so I was expecting it to be quick the second time too. It took 9 months.

I conceived the month I started using ovulation sticks. No idea if just a coincidence but certainly worth a try if you're not using then already I reckon.

Good luck!

3.5 years. Currently 5 weeks pregnant after my fourth round of ivf - my viability scan is next week. Tried absolutely every 'trick' known during that time, but it made no difference to us (our infertility is unexplained.) How old are you? It may be worth reaching out to the GP and beginning tests, as the process take time.

I'm sure you didn't mean to be unkind, you've acknowledged that you were fortunate to fall pregnant first cycle both times. But telling someone who is worried that they aren't falling pregnant to not stress is incredibly unhelpful. It's a very stressful time and implying women aren't conceiving because they aren't relaxed during it is horrible.

Please think about how you phrase this in future.

LoveThemToVits · 18/08/2026 23:30

2 cycles for my first 2 and 1 cycle for my third.

LoveThemToVits · 18/08/2026 23:32

I'd make sure you have good iron levels as (anecdotally) that can help - ferritin of at least 100 and transferrin saturation of at least 20%.

Itsbeenalongtimeincoming · 18/08/2026 23:34

What helped after years? Letting go of the stress of trying to get pregnant with constant testing and charts etc.

Also and maybe just a placebo effect but low dose aspirin due to ‘sticky’ blood as you get older. My GP told me to as his wife had multiple multiple multiple miscarriages and his friend who was an obstetrician told her to and she was successful. I’m not a doctor so please seek advise but worked for me and a couple of friends. Good luck.

No, I wasn’t meaning to be unkind. It is widely recognised that stress is a key factor to fertility issues and when you relax that factor can go away.

The thing is most people don’t start TTC stressed. I started casually. No tracking. No ovulation sticks etc. Just having lots of sex. After a year of nothing I upped things. Still nothing. I was still hopeful after my first miscarriage that that was just a one off. 5 years later I’ve almost given up. And I no longer track cycles. So no “stress” about ovulation. Still no pregnancy. I’ve had plenty of holidays etc. I no longer avoid booking things “In case” I get pregnant. I just now assume I won’t. And I haven’t. In fact most months now I don’t even think about periods or pregnancy. There’s no tests in my house. I’ve stopped so my expensive vitamins. I drink alcohol when I want no matter where I’m at in my cycle. Still no pregnancy.

Mortima · 19/08/2026 07:39

My first time around, I conceived in cycle 6 (chemical pregnancy) and cycle 7 - both of those cycles I started using a fertility cup, and wondered if that made a difference.

This time, we were shocked to conceive first cycle - used ovulation sticks only, and had sex twice (approx O-5 and O-1).

Although with both DS and this pregnancy, we happened to have sex on days England had a successful world cup match, so maybe that was it 😂

LonelyBones · 19/08/2026 07:40

After two miscarriages at 12 and 16 weeks, in the space of a year, I changed my diet, no caffeine, went to the gym, had womens fertility acupuncture fortnightly, and started using lubricant (called, Yes, which was recommended by someone on mumsnet actually). Then it was around 5 or 6 cycles afterwards i got pregnant.

Daffodilsinthespring · 19/08/2026 07:48

3 years including failed fertility treatment.

gave up trying then got pregnant naturally

No, there’s been one study that indicated stress might be a factor, which has since been debunked. There’s no scientific evidence that confirms stress impacts conception rate, so let’s stop victim blaming.

OP that is kindly very little time, especially given it can take a few months for your body to adjust after birth control.
It took us 6 months first time, and got pregnant the first month I used easy @ home ovulation sticks. unfortunately had miscarriage at 12 weeks, then took about 4 months for another pregnancy.
best thing is to keep busy in your life and don't focus on it. a year is normal.

No, you were lucky, nothing to do with being relaxed. Please don't post on threads like this in the future.

Please don’t try and control what others do.

What worked was using a Mira monitor so that we knew exactly when ovulation was happening and could have sex in the two days before. I also lost two stone in the five months before we actually managed it which I’m sure was a contributing factor.

We unfortunately had a miscarriage but took heart from the fact we proved we could do it after 3+ years! (Didn’t qualify for any NHS help due to age.)
