Progesterone test?

Has anyone had a Day 21 progesterone test done? What can I expect? If they did detect a problem, can it be treated right away - ie, would there be any hope for this cycle if progesterone is an issue?

They measure progesterone to check you have ovulated. If it measures 30 or above then this demonstrates you have.

If you haven't your GP may prescribe clomid or they may refer you to a consultant.

(Thanks for this btw, just reminded me I need to ring for my latest results !)

Thanks for this (and glad I helped you too! ) I'm pretty sure I've been ovulating as I temp and regularly have biphasic charts - is there anything they can tell about the quality of my luteal phase from this test? It's usually only about 10 days, although I did get pregnant once before - had a mmc at 11 weeks, so it seems it had nothing to do with progesterone issues.

Not sure whether they can tell quality of luteal phase - I would think not but I don't know.

Was wondering what your periods are like; are they regular or irregular?.

The day 21 test is only part of the story - you should also be tested earlier in the cycle (day 3) as well to see what your LH and FSH levels are like. If they are out of balance then ovulation will be affected.

Temp charting is not infallible a method and these charts can actually give misleading information.

LPD is not always recognised as a problem; some gynaes think it is a problem, others not.
The test will not tell anything about the luteal phase; only whether ovulation has occured that month or not.

My cycles are pretty regular - but my periods have been a bit weird since my mc. I have had quite a bit of spotting and this past cycle there seemed to be a bit of stopping and starting (Ie spotting for two days, then one day of light-medium flow, then back to spotting). That's why I went to see the GP in the first place. But in general I tend to ovulate around CD18 with a 28 day cycle.

I understand that it's not always a problem - we did manage to conceive and carry for 11 weeks previously.

I have had it checked 3 times and the results were 2, 30 and 35. Over 30 is supposed to indicate that you have ovulated but i know my friends fertility clinic said they wanted to see a level of over 40.

I have only just been refered so dont know what they will do.

i know you will need it doing a couple of time though, its normal not to ovulate a couple of cycles a year.

Don't bank on the temp shift proving ovulation. I always had a temp hike but the progesterone tests showed I wasn't ovulating. I got referred to a gyne, spent another 6 months having tests then finally got clomid and conceived first time I took it. Good luck.
