Could a small cervical polyp affect conception or pregnancy?

I am a 34-year-old woman and I would appreciate your opinion regarding my case.

For about one month I have been experiencing persistent dark brown discharge, sometimes with small blood clots. My gynecologist mentioned cervical ectropion (erosion), a small lesion on the cervix, and a 5 mm polyp. I completed the prescribed treatment, but the symptoms are still present.

My main concern is whether this 5 mm polyp could affect my ability to conceive or maintain a pregnancy. I am trying to understand whether it should be removed before attempting pregnancy, or whether it is small enough not to interfere with fertility.

I had a small polyp in my womb and at my pre-op appointment the nurse told me that this was causing my infertility and once it was removed I’d be pregnant. She said it was like walking around with my very own contraceptive inside me and she was right! I had it removed in the September and was pregnant by the November after 3+ years of trying.
No doctor or consultant ever said that was the cause, I never actually got given a reason, but I believed the nurse.
Push to get it removed and good luck 💐

I am pretty sure mine was removed in part to support fertility, although I dont remember all yhe details. I would absolutely oush for it to be gone. Not least because no one wants erratic irregular bleeding, or, like i experienced once - absolute horror movie quantities after sex!

Thank you very much for sharing your experience.

May I ask if your doctors told you that your uterus needed time to recover after the polyp removal? Were you advised to wait a long time before trying to conceive, or were you able to start trying again quite soon after the procedure?

I can’t remember what the downtime was but it wasn’t very long as I was pregnant within 3mths of it being removed so maybe just a one month cycle recovery time?

Yeah, don't remember it veing long either.

I have an endometrial polyp, I was referred to have it removed but got pregnant so ill get it removed after pregnancy. It's 7×4mm. Don't worry about it, just get it removed and keep trying in meantime. Make it clear you are ttc for any referrals.

Thank you so much for your reply. That is very reassuring to hear, especially because my polyp is also small (around 5–6 mm).

May I ask if you had any symptoms from the polyp, such as brown spotting or irregular bleeding between periods?

Congratulations on your pregnancy and thank you again for taking the time to reply.

I would have 4ish days spotting before period, 7 days of bleeding then a couple of days of brown staining after. I have very painful periods don't don't if related. I know it varies person to person too but I got pregnant age 35 the first cycle we used OPKs. I imagine it depends where it is in the uterus aswell. So definitely continue to persue the removal but keep trying until then. Iirc you need to stop trying for just one month to have it done.
