At 33, is it realistic to hope for two more children?

Just having a wee wobble about my age following my birthday. I’m now 33.

My first child is 6 months old. It took 8 months to conceive her. I plan to breastfeed to at least a year. No sign of a period yet.

I would really like to have 2 more children. Does this seem likely I would fit two in? I was thinking of starting try next February, and hopefully giving birth to #2 before 35? But I’m worries there would be no chance of a third at that point. Does anyone have any hopeful stories?

You’re young, I’m surprised that you think it would be an issue

WhatAShock91 · 19/05/2026 19:29

My sister had her first baby at 34, there's plenty of time If you don't mind having a young child in your 40's

ToKittyornottoKitty · 19/05/2026 19:33

Of course there is plenty of time

AntiHop · 19/05/2026 19:34

Had mine at 36 then 42 so yes!

You may struggle, you may not. None of us ever know exactly how it will play out. A friend of mine had her first child unplanned at 21, then it took 3.5 years of TTC for her to have her second, then she fell pregnant first month of TTC for her third. Another friend of mine had her first baby at 34, second at 38, third at 40, fourth at 44 - no trouble with TTC at all, first took the longest.

All of that being said, sometimes periods do take a long time to return. I didn't get mine back until my children slept through the night (first at 9mo, second at 2.5yr, third at 4mo). We ended up with a much bigger gap between 2 and 3 than we planned because I just could not get my second born to sleep without breastfeeding and my periods just didn't come back.

I had my last 2 children at 37 and 39. I didn’t have any difficulties conceiving although it took me a long time before I had my first 2 children at 31 and 32.
There’s always hope x

CrispAppleStrudels · 19/05/2026 20:09

I had my DC at 34 and 37 (and that was after several years of ttc and fertility treatment) so I think you have plenty of time tbh!

Cheeble · 19/05/2026 20:11

I didn’t even start trying until I was 36, and have two children.

A family member started trying in her late twenties and after many years eventually had fertility treatment (thankfully with great success).

In short: you can’t guarantee anything either way, but it certainly doesn’t sound like an unrealistic plan.

maudelovesharold · 19/05/2026 20:15

I didn’t start till I was 35, and had 3! As always, nothing’s guaranteed for any of us, but it’s definitely possible!

Sadcafe · 19/05/2026 20:16

DW was 38 when our youngest was born, 35 when second youngest. Hopefully there should be no reason why at 33 you couldn’t have two more children

First at 36
Second at 38

5 miscarriages and my heart body and soul can't take another loss, so we stopped at 2. I always dreamed of having 4 children. 🥹

I am sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Thank you for sharing that.

I had my first child when I was 31 and my fourth child when I was 41. All conceived naturally and all healthy.

I know statistically fertility declines, but statistics are not individuals. All you can do is follow your plan and hope for the best!

Boarom · 19/05/2026 20:55

Everyone is different, but it’s obviously possible in theory.

Anecdotally, I had my children at 33, 35 and 37. I’m now 38 and I’m hoping to be able to have a fourth, but 13mo is still feeding a lot and my period hasn’t returned.

Galvanized · 19/05/2026 20:57

Where in the world are you that you feel concerned? When I had my kids in my twenties it felt like all the other mums around me were age 35+ so I'd say that's the norm now. Stats bear it out too, most first time mums are over 30 in the UK and many go on to have more than one child.

AprilFlowersMay · 19/05/2026 20:57

After many miscarriages DS at 36, DT at 38. So three kids after 34!

unstablefeeling · 19/05/2026 21:00

First at 32 and second at 34, then third at 37.

Whyjustwhy83 · 19/05/2026 21:02

Had my 1st at 33 second at 40 and third at 42

I didn’t start til I was 37.
I know everyone is different, but I reckon you have enough time for a couple more.

I think time is on your side, but why not just take it one at a time?
