Low progesterone 8dpo...followed by positive test on 9dpo. Is it doomed??

As above. Progesterone came back at 21nmol on 8dpo and I got a BFP on 9dpo. Is this doomed to end in a chemical? I know that 21 is low. I was really hoping for 45+.

Please someone talk me off the ledge 😢. I am really struggling. I have had a CP before and years of infertility/IVF. This was a miracle natural conception. I am 10dpo today.

Where did you get your progesterone levels tested? I’d call your closest early pregnancy unit and see if they can prescribe it to you. Hope it works out

My GP did the test. We requested it as part of preparation for private IVF. It was completely unrelated and a crazy coincidence that I got a positive test the following day. But now I'm spiralling, especially because I'm seeing online that NHS won't give progesterone until they confirm an intrauterine pregnancy on ultrasound scan!

You need to specifically contact the EPU. Your GP should send them the results from 8dpo with an urgent referral (some trusts require referral others will take a walkin). The EPU won't scan you till 6weeks but most people start progesterone from day of 1st positive. They'll then bring you back at 6/7 weeks for a scan. You can also request repeat HCG bloods

Thank you so much. I will call them tomorrow.

My previous pregnancy was IVF so I was on bucketloads of progesterone and I still bled every day from 6-8 weeks and needed frequent scans with EPU.

Prior to that I had a chemical pregnancy where I had spotting and bleeding from the same day as positive test. So I definitely believe that I have progesterone issues.

I've had spotting / bleeding whilst on progesterone too.

I think if you also tell the EPU you were on progesterone in your last pregnancy they'll probably just prescribe it anyway.

In my experience they will prescribe it, then book you for a scan to check everything is ok from 5+ weeks when they can see something

VioIetMoon · 19/03/2026 00:53

Worth a try.
My personal experience is EPU will NOT prescribe progesterone to me until they confirm it's a viable pregnancy in the right location 6 pregnancies, 1 birth. My only child i was on progesterone with ivf.

LPR16 · 19/03/2026 06:54

Definitely worth a try @Bluebellsfortwospeak to your GP too. I’m fortunate to be close to two different hospitals so if you have that ability call both EPUs. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you

BudgetBuster · 19/03/2026 09:01

My GP prescribed it on my current pregnancy. 5 previous pregnancies and only one love birth that I was on progesterone for so GP was happy to prescribe and I went to EPU at 6w1d for scan.

Bluebellsfortwo · 28/03/2026 17:02

I just thought it would update, after a lot of back and forth with the EPU I managed to get progesterone prescribed to me. I started on them at 17dpo (4w3d), despite not strictly meeting the NHS criteria. My progesterone levels actually jumped up before I even started on them, which is very reassuring!
