Hi everyone,

My husband and I have been trying for our first baby since October 25. Both 30, I've never been pregnant - he had a pregnancy with an ex that sadly didn't go to term.
My last cycle was the first time I had used ovulation strips and they were positive 2 days after my app said. I thought this meant that I'd been misjudging my ovulation and that's why we hadn't conceived.
Then 8dpo I had some spotting that I thought was implantation bleeding and got really excited but sadly came on an unusually heavy period yesterday.

Feeling unbelievably sad about the whole thing and was just wondering how long it took everyone to get pregnant with their first children after starting trying. Starting to worry that it might not happen but realistically if I've been wrong about my ovulation dates this is only the first month of being accurate.

Any success stories would be greatly appreciated.

Hi OP, no success story here (yet! 🤞) but I just wanted to say I’m in the same boat as you.

We’re on cycle 6 of TTC #1 and even though I know it’s well within the bounds of normality, I’ve found it hard to adjust my expectations around how easily it’d happen. I think always being so careful to not to get pregnant gave me an inflated sense of how likely it actually is to happen month to month (yay, doom-laden sex ed!).

Last cycle (5) was particularly shit because AF was 3 days late after a lifetime of clockwork regularity, so of course I lost my mind with excitement before she turned up. Then my friend announced his wife’s pregnancy with scan photos in our group WhatsApp and it really caught me off-guard. I’m happy for them, of course, but I was sad and jealous too, rightly or wrongly.

So yes, this is all to say your feelings are valid! Granted, it’s not a long time compared to many other people’s experiences of TTC, but it’s a long time to hope for something so much and be disappointed 💐

I completely agree - I've been thrilled my whole life to not get accidentally pregnant and now I'm desperate for a baby I've realised sex ed left a lot of details out!
Oh I really feel for you, getting your hopes up and then being disappointed is the saddest part. The month feels an awful lot longer when you're desperately waiting to find out if you've been successful or not. Good luck with your journey and I hope we all have good news soon!

Thank you for all the advice everyone I really appreciate it - particularly tracking BBT, something I'm definitely going to start doing. Also will start taking vitamin D!
We both eat well with lots of protein, husband has an active job and I have dogs and horses so I'm pretty active too. We get plenty of sleep, don't smoke and he drinks on a friday and I only drink on special occassions so hopefully it's just a waiting game. It's so nice to just sound out my thoughts and hear from other people in the same boat ❤

Just wanted to pop on and update you all - I got pregnant on the cycle that I made this post. I followed poster's advice regarding having sex every other day and monitoring BBT and I'm now 6 weeks pregnant so thank you to everyone that responded ❤

Took 3 months to conceive at 39
Been on low UPF diet for over a decade
Cut drastically down on phthalates and plastics use especially in kitchen and bathroom products, reduced perfumed toiletries etc. for several years
Started taking coq10 with other supplements several months before conception. It takes 3 months to make a healthy egg.

11 months with my first at 32, 5 months with my second at 34.
