High Prolactin Levels - 3438

I have just got my blood test results back, most things are perfectly in range except a couple being slightly above/below ideal but nothing too worrying really, except my Prolactin levels, which are at 3438. This is apparently 7x the normal level! I am feeling pretty anxious about this, I guess it explains my long stint of infertility, but upon research it seems to be because of a tumor, and not much comes up about a level this high! Has anyone else had a level as high as this? What was the outcome? Did you conceive after sorting it out?

This will be a short reply because I’m just about to go out but I had levels of 4000 plus 20 years ago - I was found to have a prolactinoma and was given cabergoline which reduced the levels. It didn’t show up on an mri, but they often don’t if they’re tiny and just secreting lots of the hormone. I was then able to conceive my two dc - ten years apart, my prolactin has remained fairly high ever since and I just take cabergoline to reduce it (I’m now 45, dc are 13 and 23). The Pituitary Foundation have a lot of information about it and a specialist nurse helpline. I did go on to develop lots of other autoimmune issues though- if you have one you often develop more so that’s something to be aware of.

Thank you, so do you think getting it treated helped you conceive?

Yes, without a doubt. I wasn’t even having regular periods otherwise.
