Can’t get pregnant after having a c section

I need help!!!
has any of you struggled to get pregnant after having a c section?
I’ve read a few comments on here that have said they’ve not got pregnant since having a c section? And now I am panicking. I was not told this by health professionals before I had my section? And surely that’s a massive thing to ask especially if you are looking to have more children in the future??

I think there are risks re implantation in scar tissue but in terms of actual conception the surgery shouldn't have an impact at all.

I've been pregnant twice since my first c-section. Both conceived within 3 months of TTC. Of my other mum friends who have had c-sections all have gone on to have additional children since the section.

LucyCL · 02/03/2026 11:38

I had a c section 10 months ago, got my period 1.5 months ago and this is the second month of ttc. I feel like the reason why some people cannot get pregnant is because the first few cycles are always irregular. This is just my assumption. What stackhead said has given me confidence. Good luck, OP!

Chelseaxxxx · 02/03/2026 11:45

thanks ladies, when I seen a bunch of people saying they couldn’t get pregnant again due to c sections I just had a worry, we are TTC atm which is a taking us a bit longer than it did with our first but hoping nature will take its course!! Good luck to you too @LucyCL

I have also wondered this to be honest. I am month 5 TTC our second now and had an emergency c section previously. Took 3 months to conceive with our first so can’t help but start to worry at this point. Probably clutching at straws and overthinking it that it could be linked to my c section but the same thought has crossed my mind! How long have you been TTC?

Twasasurprise · 02/03/2026 13:00

I have not heard this. It does sound coincidental, and I had no trouble conceiving after my CS. Hopefully all will work out for you soon.

Hey,

weve not been trying that long at all! Just 3 months but i fell pregnant within 6 week with my first, don’t know why but I came across a bunch of ladies saying how they’ve not been able to get pregnant since having a c section !!
I wasn’t told this before having a c section and if it does affect future pregnancies surely the health professionals should definitely have mentioned it?

i read something and then panic and think that’s it I’ll never get pregnant again! ( such a stupid way of thinking I know)

I had 3 csections, have had 5 pregnancies (2 miscarriages) and got pregnant first month every time. Where did you read these stories of it affecting conception? Look for actual research rather than anecdotal stories.

traveltraveltravel78 · 02/03/2026 13:06

Three of my friends had cs with their first and all have gone on to have at least one more baby

3 months is well, well within a normal time frame and you are slightly older which could potentially be a factor in it taking slightly longer. Try to not spiral and read stuff online. If you are worried you are better off doing ovulation and sperm tests.

thats reassuring that you’ve gone onto have more babies with having c sections, I read them on here, I think it’s to do with the scar tissue but there was quite a few ladies who said that they no longer could have anymore child due to it. I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced that also.

mondaytosunday · 02/03/2026 13:25

I think people are just trying to find a ‘why’. I had no problem getting pregnant after my section, and neither did the few people I know who also had sections, one conceiving three months after birth before she got her period back.
However studies have suggested that it can take longer to conceive after a section, with one reason being the reason the section was needed in the first place. Also possible internal scarring and adhesions, and damage to the reproductive organs. But the majority do go on to conceive again.

Iocanepowder · 02/03/2026 13:26

I had a c section with both kids. No problems conceiving either.

I would agree with PPs that it’s more likely down to something else. I know a lot of women who took longer to conceive with their second.

I’m not sure being told there is a reduced risk of conception after c section is a thing really. I was never told this.

Chelseaxxxx · 02/03/2026 13:27

@Allswellthatendswelll

yeah 3 months is a normal time I know! I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced secondary infertility after a c section I would rather read people’s stories, rather Google it☺️ I am 28 so I would say that’s still a good age?

I couldn't have more children after my fourth child who was my only C-section. I was 27 when he was born, I'm now 40 and have never used any contraception.

My first was emergency C section. 5 subsequent pregnancies (2 miscarriages) but all five conceived in first month and 3 delivered without c section. I’ve never heard this before- most people I know who had c sections all went on yo have further pregnant

28 is still very young but 3 months is well within the average of 30% chance per month so there is no need to jump to conclusions about c sections etc. If you were still ttc after a year then maybe get investigated.
I had secondary infertility (which is over a year) and my c section was never mentioned by doctors. I did concieve again in the end (was male factor).

yes you are definitely right I need to stop stressing about it, won’t help fall pregnant either. I was just stressed when I seen that cos I was never told that could be the possibility! So glad you got your baby in the end xx

I have never, ever heard of this.

Have you actually been told this by a professional or seen any medical evidence to back this theory up?

Or is it just something you’ve heard?

My first was born via CS and went on to have a further two pregnancies.

Onlyontuesday · 02/03/2026 17:08

You can get endometritis after a CS, it's a chronic infection in endometrial tissue. You can get an endometrial biome test to check, it's often symptomless but can cause infertility and recurrent miscarriage.

Or.. I'm not recommending this, but some have obtained treatment for endometritis (3 weeks of doxycycline) via travel health websites.

obliviate24 · 02/03/2026 17:19

I fell pregnant 6m PP, first month trying!

Underthemoon1 · 02/03/2026 17:23

I had a look for research on this - it looks like C-section mums do take a little longer on average to conceive afterwards. However the studies accepted that they couldn't account for factors that give you more risk of having fertility problems and C-sections, like obesity and having IVF for you first baby. So it looks like there isn't the data to assess the risk of reduced fertility but likely to be small impact of if any.

Oh I thought with endometriosis you get quite a lot of symptoms with it like, irregular periods, bloating, pain going to the toilet or have I got that wrong?

I’ve not been told by professional but if you look at some comments on here apparently they try and brush it off and say it’s not to do with a c section and then months down the line with more testing it turns out it is!

Yeah I read similar to you, I think it’s just how your uterus heals after a c section! I just read a lot of women saying that they couldn’t get pregnant after the c section due to the tissue damage. I wasn’t aware of any of this at all! And I just kinda panicked I guess ! Just cos I would absolutely love one more baby! I am a worrier so I think the worst haah
