Polyps and TTC

I just want to share this story incase anyone finds themselves in the same position as I was. I was constantly on here when TTC looking for similar stories for comfort and positive outcomes.

I’m 35, partner 40 and had been TTC for 2 years before getting a positive test. We tried every single month during those 2 years - like clock work.

I had some tests after 1 year of trying and they found a 5mm polyp inside the uterus using an internal scan. I was told it was highly unlikely to be causing any issues and they weren’t concerned by it (plenty of women get pregnant and carry with polyps) so we continued to TTC.

The 2 year mark was approaching and I was starting to think of IVF.
I was told that it’s best to have the polyp removed before IVF as extra precaution.

I booked in the polyp removal to be done privately in October last year.

I also had a hysteroscopy (checking if the tubes were blocked through pushing liquid through) in the September as you can’t have this done for a few months after you’ve had a polyp removed and I wanted to get this done asap (I should have really had them checked ages before this!) The tubes were clear and no issues. Some people claim this helps with fertility as it’s like cleaning out the tubes and creating an easier path for swimming!

October arrive and the polyp was removed in a successful procedure, turns out it was actually 10mm big. you can’t try the same month as having a polyp removed due to infection risk. So we started TTC again in November and to our biggest surprise got our first ever positive test. Currently 16 weeks and everything seems to be going really well.

I know this story could be triggering, particularly if you have had polyps removed and it made no difference. We will never know if it was the polyp removal or the hysteroscopy or a combination of the 2 procedures that helped us but it just seems very coincidental to fall the following month after all of that time trying. I also have a friend to at was preparing for IVF and had some cysts removed then a hysteroscopy and fell pregnant the second month after the procedures.

None of this is to say it’s a guarantee and everyone is different but I just wanted to provide an example incase anyone was on the fence about polyp removal, even if it’s just 1 and even if it’s small I think it can make a difference.

I wish everyone the best of luck when TTC and sending baby dust and hope to all xx

Thanks so much - this is lovely to hear! I am doing IVF at the moment and have a polyp as well. Is surgical removal the only option?
