Is anyone else intolerant to folic acid? If so, what conception / pregnancy supplements do you take?

I can’t take folic acid (since early 20s) . when I do I feel aggressive, can’t focus and I am very emotional (to the point I can’t work). My doctor said it sounds like an intolerance and to try supplement with food. I’ve also read it can be a sign of low b12 but my doctor didn’t raise b12 level as an issue. It’s difficult to know if I am getting enough. What do others do? All conception supplements, obviously, contain it so I’m not sure what to do. TTC for 3 months. Im extremely run down as my toddler doesn’t sleep well and I’m up at least twice a night and get little sleep (2 years straight) . Not ideal for ttc but clock is ticking. I thought a supplement, as well as concerted effort to walk and get fresh air each day, and eat better may help.

I don't think walking/fresh air will prevent spinal defects. If it was me I would focus on eating as many folate-rich foods as possible.

Folic acid is specifically for neural tube closure (spine/brain formation) so exercise and general health won’t help.
best to eat folate.

I’m assuming you checked you weren’t just intolerant to that preparation - eg if you took it in a different conception supplement it may not affect you?

What did you take with your first pregnancy? Did you manage to take folic acid?

You can try taking folate in its natural form instead of folic acid

Yes, do this. I'm fairly sure you can't be allergic to the real thing, as you must consume it all the time in foods. You can buy it as a supplement, just check it's folate rather than folic acid or Vitamin B9.
