Ovulation after miscarriage?

Hi everyone,
I had my miscarriage confirmed as complete today by ultrasound. Bleeding had started two weeks ago. Still spotting a bit and there was still some blood they saw on the scan, but reassured me no pregnancy components and also negative pregnancy test.

I was curious when I’d ovulate again so did a CB digital test a few days ago and was obviously a negative. I did one today and got a flashing smiley. Is this normal? Seems too soon for ovulation to be happening again in next few days.
Any advice appreciated!

Hi @EmeraldPie we've spoken before on your previous thread. After both of my losses I got my period back within four weeks of the surgical/medical management. So it is possible you're ovulating! There does seem to be a lot of variation for when your period returns but it seems like yours might come around the same time as mine did.

Hi @SureLook. Thanks for your reply again! Okay; it definitely does seem possible then. I just thought it wouldn’t be yet as still some blood lingering! Hormones are so weird. I’ll perhaps test again in a day or so. It’s just made me feel confused as didn’t think I’d be fertile so soon.

Hi OP.
I definitely ovulated a fortnight after my first miscarriage, as I got pregnant again immediately.
Four weeks after I had my ERPC I had another positive pregnancy test.

Hi @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne
Thank you for sharing this, do you mind me asking how that pregnancy went?
I was advised to wait a cycle before TTC again but my mind is so torn.

Well, she's 41 years old now!

@EmeraldPie yeah, keep testing and see what happens. They only want you to wait a period to help them date a new pregnancy but the research shows that waiting or not waiting has no effect on future pregnancies. So do what feels right for you!

Exactly - they said at the EPU to wait for my first period to arrive and then can try again otherwise they can’t date it when I want an earlier scan with their unit 🙄… I can understand it for sure, but if it isn’t medically necessary then yes, I don’t see why it matters either! Wonder if they wouldn’t offer me the early 6-7 week scan if this happened?
it’s made me feel rather torn about whether or not to try again immediately.

Do you know the earliest they’d be able to ‘date’ it in these occurrences? Surely it must happen to a fair few women!

Yes it does.
A scan at 8 weeks would produce a reliable date.

I was told that the date of my ERPC was regarded as my LMP. That was remarkably accurate, as things turned out. And if you're in tune with your body (and are familiar with your CM changes and your BBT) you'll know jolly well when you ovulated.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 19/12/2025 09:04

And actually @EmeraldPie it was at 8 weeks that I saw a heartbeat and it became possible to date my pregnancy. That's also going back many years, and as they were capable of doing this over 40 years ago, they're capable of doing it now.

SureLook · 19/12/2025 09:54

@EmeraldPie as @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne said, they use the date of your surgery or medication to date the pregnancy. In your case they would probably consider from the heaviest day of bleeding and set that as your LMP. I'm in Ireland so it might be different but they don't set your due date or weeks until the 12 week scan.

For me personally I waited until I had a period. Not having exactly dates would have thrown me and made me feel more anxious and uneasy. But that's just me and my personality type! I know of lots of women who just went for it straight away and they had no issues.

I had a MMC on 11th Nov - only stopped bleeding late last week and I think I ovulated on Monday. I didn't get any advice as when to try again but we were planning on waiting until I had a period however, I also wasn't aware when I would be ovulating as everything seemed so uncertain.

Misspotterscat · 19/12/2025 11:53

I ovulated two weeks after my miscarriage and had a positive pregnancy test 9 days after that. Pregnancy was fine and my child is almost 2 now.
EPU told me I could try again as soon as I had stopped bleeding and said I would be extremely fertile in that time.

graceinc22 · 19/12/2025 12:03

Definitely try again if you feel ready to. Not having an exact date is a situation lots of women are in - if they get pregnant when breastfeeding and have erratic cycles, or if they have irregular cycles anyway (PCOS mums hello!). And anyway if you're tracking ovulation, you will have your own idea of conception date. Ultimately the nhs dating from the 12 week scan becomes the official date for your pregnancy (not your period date). If you feel ready, I would try again now x

I’ve had 2 miscarriages which were consecutive. They were very early ones around 5-6 weeks. I first got pregnant in January which ended in MC, then feb which was also a MC and then got pregnant in the April! She is now 2 years old. I also know people who got pregnant the month after a MC. I was told you are more fertile after a MC by my doctor xx

Sorry for your loss… Yes, totally relate! It’s all so uncertain. Guess it’s much easier to track from a period :(

Aw thanks for sharing. It seems we got told very different things by the EPU, glad everything turned out fine for you for that pregnancy. When did you get a first scan?

Aw thanks! This gives me a lot of reassurance. I’m getting flashing smiley at the moment on CB test so no harm at this time either. Yep! I will likely know conception date too, if it does happen x

My period didn't arrive when expected and I am not pregnant so no idea what is going on now.
