How many attempts did it take to get pregnant please and do they need to do anything to you too ?
Also DH will not risk twins so do they still want to put 2 eggs in and would it be a disaster if we just wanted one ?
Thank you

Do you mean ICSI? You will need to have all the normal IVF stuff done, but there isn't an additional stuff for you. You (and your DH) will need to be aware though that depending on the severity of his condition, the chances of the embryos "sticking" is reduced. If he has good quality sperm, but very few of them, you should have good chances though. What is the reason for IVF?

KatieDD · 07/06/2008 20:28

The reason is that he had a vasectomy and he's been to talk through a reversal today and I didn't like the odds, 50/50 after 2 years, with a 90% chance of even getting that far.
I hope because we've hit the jackpot first time that we work together iyswim, but of course I'm 5 years older as is he and the sperm will be affected by the vasectomy I guess even in the testicals ?

Ah I see. So he doesn't have a problem with his sperm normally? Then the chances aren't so bad as he has a problem with delivery and not manufacture, if you see what I mean. ICSI is still pretty risky though (more so than regular IVF). And they will have to remove the sperm from his testicles (not nice) so the sperm won't be as good as those that are ejaculated. And even regular IVF isn't a walk in the park. The chances look to be 25% of women acheive a pregnancy per cycle (from this website - the factsheet on ICSI is really good).

I think it's the reversal or nothing, he's not keen on ICSI and it doesn't sound nice for either of us, I guess we'll have to take our chances.
Thanks for the replies

No problem. And good luck.
