Ttc, PCOS and AMH test

Hi all,

I’d really appreciate some help in depicting these results.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS and have not ovulated for a while. I am on Metformin to manage my symptoms and have had an AMH test to help get an understanding on my reserves.

My AMH is extremely high, as expected for PCOS, at 110 pmol/L or 15ng/ml.

Is this good or bad? I honestly can’t work it out everything I’ve looked at is just so confusing.

Would I respond well to Letrozole? Is a very high AMH level better than a very low one?

my appt to discuss is in 3 weeks but I’d like to know what my chances could be

Thank you

I don’t know about AMH but I have PCOS and endometriosis. I was on metformin and then letrozole which worked the first month for me . I hadn’t ovulated in 6 months before that

thank you for this lovely. So glad it worked for you that brings me hope. Did they not ask you to do an AMH and tube clear prior to letrozole? Xx

They did but I can’t remember and probably didn’t understand the AMH - the tube test was clear I think it’s called a hycosy .
i was very lucky . I stayed on metformin until I was 5 months pregnant

I had been on metformin to try regulate my cycles, it didn't do anything despite being it for a years.
My amh then was 62 ( i was 37)
We did clomid , it didn't help me ovulate
My only child was conceived via ivf when I was 38. Had a mc , naturally just before him.
I'm now 40 and my amh was 41.
We did another ivf cycle and have 2 frozen embryos but I fell pregnant naturally during it ( miscarriage)
My cycles are now quite regular.
I think high amh does affect your cycles and hence why they say women with pcos tend to have more regular cycles and a higher chance of getting pregnant as they age compared to when younger. Certainly the case for me.

It's really hard to know, I was told I'd be a perfect clomid and ivf candidate and I responded terribly to both.
You won't know until you try unfortunately

My AMH result from a Hertility test along with prolonged absence of periods was enough to convince my GP to suspect PCOS and refer me to the fertility clinic, and it was only around 42 pmol/l at 33yo so yours sounds very high.

AMH is basically the indicator of how many eggs you have. If you aren’t ovulating, it will be high because you aren’t releasing them. Good news is you aren’t running out of eggs, bad news is it isn’t a guarantee of egg quality nor is it an indicator of fertility. Letrozole could be the kick start your body needs but you won’t know until you try it. Some people respond well and others don’t - I don’t think there’s a way to tell beforehand.

I was never given Metformin despite having maybe 2 periods a year for years. No tube test for me but I’d been pregnant once before about a year and a half prior to my diagnosis (I had an early miscarriage and didn’t have a single period after it) so my consultant said we’d do a couple of rounds and if it didn’t work then we’d try the test then.

I asked him about Metformin after he’d diagnosed my PCOS and he said that because I was trying to conceive it wasn't the best starting point, and letrozole generally worked much more effectively (and more effectively than clomid too). I ovulated with one round of the lowest dose of letrozole and am now 37w+4 after a smooth pregnancy.

How old are you OP? I had AMH of 13 ng/mol when I was 31 and that was considered very high for my age. I have PCOS and had my Mirena coil out a few months before which I think impacted my levels because I hadn’t had a proper period at the time I got the test.

Everyone’s PCOS is different so wait for your appointment but for me I didn’t end up needing medication and did a combination of low carb diet, lost about 1st and took supplements (Ovasitol was the main one) and I got pregnant a few months later. DD is now 20 months. So it is possible to conceive with a high AMH / PCOS x

Thanks for your message. I’m 30 and quite slim with a BMI in the healthy range but they suspect I haven’t ovulated for over a year now. Metformin has made no difference at all for me so I’m putting some hope on letrozole next xx

Did you try letrozole as well as chlomid? I read they tend to offer letrozole to PCOS sufferers instead now as chlomid doesn’t work as efficiently
