Hi ladies,

After some advice. I’ve had 3 MC and my GP did some initial tests and was concerned by my blood results. They’ve said I need a repeat test in 12 weeks but they suspect I have APS. I don’t think they’ll do anything until it’s confirmed but worried if I get pregnant that it’ll end in another loss. I’m wondering whether to pay privately for recurrent loss and whether that might help.

I wouldn’t pay privately. They should be referring you to a recurrent miscarriage clinic regardless of whether it’s APS or not so d be pushing for the referral to be made now. Though guess doing it privately might speed it up, I’d be asking the GP what the current nhs waiting times are and taking it from there.

The waiting for 12 weeks may be standard for a repeat blood test to check it wasn’t a one off blip. I’m not sure but sometimes they will say there needs to be a certain time frame between two abnormal blood results for a diagnosis so private might not change that?

Firstly, I’m sorry you’ve had 3 miscarriages - you should now be referred to the recurring miscarriage clinic regardless so push your GP to do so if they haven’t already.
In my experience both the NHS and private ask for a 12 week wait between the APS testing to see whether anything changes. If you get pregnant before the second blood test I would contact a private recurring miscarriage specialist as I think they would be more likely to prescribe you the blood thinning injections before the second results come through. I had borderline high APS results along with factor v Leiden, the NHS wouldn’t give me anything but a private consultant prescribed me with low molecular weight heparin injections and told me to take aspirin.

Happy to answer any other questions you might have, I’ve had 4 miscarriages and have gone down both the recurring miscarriage NHS clinic route and several private consultants with various testing.

A referral has been made. They just thought they’d get some initial bloods done whilst I’m waiting. Yeah I don’t think going private will change the length of time it’ll take to find out either way if I have it but I wonder if they’ll be able to do something in the meantime. I might just contact and ask. Thanks for your advice.

Thank you for your advice. That’s really helpful and makes sense. Any particular private consultants you’ve seen that you’d recommend?
