Is this normal line progression?

I’m 4w4d today based on LMP.
with my first son I had very dark lines at this stage. I feel as though the lines aren’t progressing

Is this normal line progression?

The main body of the line is. I think what’s throwing them off is they’re drying with that thin, dark evap line, (which this brand can do even when positive), which looks the same on every test.
If you look at the part of the line to the right of it, it’s definitely darker from 9 to 12dpo.

Try not to worry :)

ScaryM0nster · 12/10/2025 15:53

Line progression isn’t a thing.

Tests aren’t designed to differentiate for hcg levels.

VVM · 12/10/2025 22:29

@ScaryM0nster It definitely is a thing. Come on now, a test taken before a missed period is going to be much lighter than a test taken a week after a missed period. You might not necessarily see drastic changes within a day but as the days go on you will see the test darken

Do you understand the bio engineering behind how the tests work?

I’m guessing not.

There may be some darkening, but that’s a function of how much ink binding takes place. Which may will some relationship to hcg reaches the ink band.

How much reaches the ink band depends on the absorbency of the strip, the pre existing moisture levels of the strip. The amount of ink on the strip. The hcg concentration in the urine. The position of the strip in the sample. The urine concentration. The amount in the sample. How the test was done.

Hamserfan · 13/10/2025 08:41

Honestly I do not see much difference between the three. Although HCG increase happens, as ScaryM0nster says there are many factors that influence the appearance of the band.
Also what you do or dont do at this point has absolutely no bearing on whether this pregnancy will progress or not so why keep testing. So I would say stop spending money on more tests, continue your folic acid and book in to see your midwife at the appropriate time. And look forward to expanding your family. Best of luck with it all.

Don’t be so condescending. Line progression, variables accounted for, happens.

It can happen.

Equally it can not happen.

Or it can go the other direction despite a healthy pregnancy.

Because the range of variables mean that any of those are credible outcomes.

You’ve seen an example of tests getting progressively lighter but the pregnancy progressed as normal? Hook effect not withstanding?

Between two tests - yes.

Sorry, that doesn’t tally with your “line progression isn’t a thing”. So just stop.

Hi @EmPeEfhow did your test look after this? Mine have not changed much for a few days

VVM · 13/10/2025 22:41

Honestly the rubbish some people chat is unreal. Anyone who’s been pregnant and tested at different intervals in the pregnancy will tell you the lines get darker as the days go on. You wouldn’t get a barely there line at 7/8 weeks pregnant for example. If you’re using the same brand of test you can do a comparison. In both my last 2 pregnancies I did exactly that, watched the lines go from barely there to complete dye stealers and I kept on testing as it gave me some what reassurance that the lines weren’t fading.

I stopped testing on the strips at 15dpo. My test was nice and dark and there wasn’t much else I could do, so just hoped everything was progressing normally. I didn’t get a 2-3 on a digital until a few days later.

@EmPeEf thank you
