What to expect during a miscarriage bleed

Sorry if anyone feels this content is too sensitive.
I'm currently going through a mc and I've just started bleeding last night. I have chosen to pass this at home naturally.
It's moderate-heavy with lots of small clots.
Can anyone who has experienced a mc tell me about their own experiences if its not to difficult to talk about.
Is this what i should expect? Just lots of small clots? Should I expect to pass any larger clots ? I understand what would have been our baby is extremely small but I'd love to know is it possible to distinguish from all the other small clots?
I'm not sure how far along my pregnancy stopped developing. I had my scan at 7+1 but there was no heartbeat. Sac and pole were visible. They didn't give me any indication what week my baby stopped growing which was disappointing as I would have loved to have known. I would like to save any clot / tissue that may have been the developing baby as opposed to disposing it down the toilet if this was possible. If you were early like me, did it just look like any other clot that would be hard to tell the difference?
In terms of duration , how long did your bleeding last?
The only advice epu offered me is to test in 3 weeks and check it's negative.
Should I expect my period to be irregular after this?

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Before you read this, be warned it isn’t nice and this may not happen to you.

I had a MMC - the pregnancy ended around 6/7 weeks but it was at 12 weeks I started to get some bleeding. For me, the bleeding got worse - severe cramping/contractions and passing a LOT of blood and some huge clots. We called the midwife for advise and they ordered me straight to A&E. I can barely remember the journey there and then the waiting room was packed. I remember I was screaming in pain in the waiting room and just sobbing. I went to go to the toilet as I was soaking through a maternity pad every 30 mins - I remember the ladies was occupied and this man in the waiting room saw me stood waiting and came over, went into the men’s and came out to tell me it was empty and to use that (single toilet for each sex) - I don’t think I’ve ever felt so grateful to a stranger as I was to him (my husband didn’t even think to do that). Anyway, I wasn’t waiting for too long before I was triaged and after a lot of begging they got me gas and air. I think I was on that for about 3 or 4 hours before the contractions started to slow down. I was admitted overnight, and the miscarriage was confirmed the next morning.

So basically, watch out for any signs of things getting worse and don’t be afraid to go to A&E if you are losing a lot of blood or are in a lot of pain.

the miscarriage wasn’t fully complete. I was offered a D&C or to let it pass naturally. It took about 3 weeks to confirm it was complete. I’m not sure you can or should try to save any clot or tissue. It would smell terrible and be extremely messy.

I had 1 period after that, and then a month later I was pregnant again (successful).

Good luck and again, I’m so sorry.

Hello. So sorry you’re going through this.

I can’t offer any help but didn’t want to read and run. I went to our 12 week scan this week and was told baby had no heartbeat but as yet, no bleeding or loss. Back for a scan next week and will then decide between medical management or surgery.

it’s just so awful. Sending lots of love xx

So sorry about your loss (and others in the thread!) it’s truly an awful time.
I was experiencing some spotting around 9 weeks and had a scan at EPU and they did not find a heartbeat. I had a scan at 7 weeks and there was a heartbeat then - they think baby stopped developing shortly after that scan.
I was quite terrified of having a natural miscarriage - they booked me for a surgery one, but natural happened before. It all took place last week so still quite fresh in my mind. To be honest my experience was manageable, it was not as bad as I had imagined/feared.
similar to you lots of clots - there were larger ones but I did not have a very big clot to pass if that makes sense. Lots of bleeding for about 2 hours - just needed to be at home and by the bathroom and it was manageable with painkillers like ibuprofen and paracetamols. I was not in much pain.
since then bleeding continued in form of light period and is still on-going. Nurse said that this can last for about 2 weeks?
now waiting for a negative pregnancy test and hoping no further intervention will be needed!
took time off work for a week and working from home for the second week, it definitely helped!
so sorry again - just remember you’re not alone, unfortunately miscarriages happen so much more frequently than I ever imagined! Let me know if you have any more questions!
hope the process is manageable for you. Sending a hug

I miscarried at about 7 weeks last year and it wasn't as bad or painful as PPs. I bled for about five days as if it was a heavy period, passing clots and then passed a big clot, it was probably about 2 inches long and it was quite obvious what it was.

I managed to work throughout (albeit from home) and didn't need any medical intervention. I can't remember what my period was like thereafter but I had a positive pregnancy test about eight weeks later (which was a successful pregnancy).

I am very sorry for your loss and hope you get through it without too much discomfort.

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I had an MC earlier this year (no growth from about 5 weeks but didn't pass until 9) and I struggled to find information about the very practical what to expect so I completely understand why you're asking!

For me it started similar to a period with some small clots and then at some point I was aware of something bigger and I didn't think to get to to the loo so ended up passing sack on the sofa. Flooded through pad and made a right mess. After that it was just like an ordinary period but went on for about 2 weeks and I passed a few more biggish clots. EPU will give you a "butterfly bag" if you want to retain something to bury or have cremated.

Nothing was particularly painful but I was absolutely wiped out. I was also deeply relieved I was working from home that week because it wouldn't have been manageable to be away from home.
