Low thyroid and recurrent losses

I'm hoping someone may be able yo give me hope and tell me a positive story about conceiving quickly after starting on levothyroxine.

I've been ttc number 2 for over a year and feel like time is running out due to my speedily impending 41st birthday. I've had 2 chemicals around the 4.5 week mark and a loss at just over 5 weeks, so 3 in total.

I've been to a private fertility consultant who has diagnosed low thyroid. I just feel like this is game over for me though as I'm aware it can take months and months to get your dosage right and TSH in range. I feel like by the time I sort this the door will be closed for me because of my age.

I don't think I could feel more low right now. I feel like I am around babies and pregnancies everywhere and think about it constanlty. One good friend has recently given birth whilst another has just announced her pregnancy. I work in maternity services and now my 4 year old has started asking for a brother. I'm so depressed and just don't know what to do or how to switch off from this.

Ignore your four year old. He has no idea what he's asking for. He may well get a sister. And he's thinking of a baby to dress up and play with like a toy, not a six year old who's going to rampage and destroy his Lego sets and barge in when he's playing with his new cool mates from secondary school. I hope things happen quickly for you x

I got pregnant 6 weeks after going onto levothyroxine. After 11 months of trying.

That's good news congratulations to you. Got everything crossed here but just feel like it's getting less likely by the day. Hoping I may have the same result!

Sorry to jump on this but I was wondering what your symptoms were? It's looking possible that a low thyroid issue might be causing me some fertility problems but just waiting on my actual consultant appointment to confirm and work out next steps. Thank you

I didn’t have any major symptoms other than not getting pregnant. Although I do have short eyebrows (no “tail”) which apparently is a symptom, also thin hair and get cold easily. But none of the fatigue and brain fog that some people report - I wasn’t very severely hypothyroid though.

I think low thyroid can cause fertility issues even if it’s not low enough to cause major symptoms. Hence the recommended TSH level is <4.5 usually but <2.5 (I think) for women who are TTC.

Well I thought my only symptoms were repeated early losses, but in hindsight I've been exhausted for the last year or so and gained a lot of weight... I just put this down to having a toddler and not eating well but my weight did really increase significantly when my little one was about 2. Only been talking the levothyroxine for 4 days so will be interesting to see if I have more energy in about a month ... or if it is genuinely due to my toddler wearing me out!

I’ve had three early losses in the last four months and have been on Levo for years. I just got back my TSH results today after a blood test last week, and my thyroid is so well medicated they actually want me to reduce my medication.

So just wanted to give you some hope that it may not be thyroid related at all. It’s great that you’re getting on medication if you need it, but there may just have been another issue, and you may yet conceive even whilst your Levo starts doing its thing.
