Ovulating twice in one cycle?

Hi everyone,

me and my partner have been ttc for a just under a year now so as you can imagine i have done countless ovulation tests in that time. Today something unusual has happened and i just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience. Just some quick context, my period ended on cycle day 5, i done ovulation tests from this point onewards (both premom strips and clearblue advanced ovulation tests). Both types of tests indicated my peak LH on CD12 which is standard for me. I stopped testing for a few days after this but randomly on CD15 i decided to start again. On CD15 and 16 i got negative LH tests. Today much to my surprise i have got the darkest LH test i have ever had, my usual peak is around 1.10 but todays was 1.40 according to the premom app and my clear blue was again a static smiley! So i have had two instances this cycle where ovulation has been confirmed by multiple test types! At first i thought maybe i just ovulated for a really long time but i done ovulation tests on CD15 and 16 which confirmed i wasn’t ovulating? Just to add, i have done multiple pregnancy tests that have all come back 100% negative, i am only 5 dpo though so i know that realistically i wouldn't be getting a positive yet and i doubt that my LH test would be that dark this early on in pregnancy. My previous cycle was only 24 days, so again it seems weird to me that i would ovulate on CD17 as its so late for me. If anyone has any idea what could be going on please share! Thank you!

Unfortunately there's no way to know with any degree of certainlly.

The possibilities you outlined are of course feasible.

Have to keep mind our bodily rhythms don't run predictably efficiently like a robot. Sometimes things happen with no explanation.

I think when we have longer cycles than normal, our body’s geared up ovulate when we expected, but whatever reason, it failed. So our bodies try again at a lager CD, and then our luteal phase stays the same length. So our periods come later.

The only ways to try and confirm when OV occurred are to take your temperature and/or test with progesterone strips. But a real test will be to see if your period comes when you expect it to this month, or if it will be CD17 + your luteal phase.

I agree with @EmPeEf periods are never late, it’s the ovulation that is delayed. So if you know your luteal phase length you would know when you ovulated if you work backwards
