Am i healthy enough to start ttc?

i have had the following tests and i am 27.

• fsh & lh are normal
• thyroid is normal
• esrogen & progesterone half way through luteal are normal

The only concern i have is light to medium flow periods that are 2 days long and that my cycle length varies by 4 days (this concern only lies with me as all doctors say this can be normal after having my daughter 4 years ago) What do you think? Should i try to conceive now? I have a trans abdominal ultrasound appointment for around ovulation time so should i ask to check uterine lining thickness, trilayers of the lining and look over my ovaries? Thank you.

do you think i am healthy enough to start ttc now or wait until results of the ultrasound?

I've never heard of anyone having these tests in advance to trying to conceive. You just start trying. If you conceive, then it's fine. If you don't then after a year look for reasons. I thought you were going to say things like stopping drinking or losing weight which are worth doing, but you sound more like you're looking for reasons not to start TTC.

I have had concerns that my lining may be too thin like i mentioned above so i have spent the past year getting healthy and seeing if things would improve and since they haven’t i want to see if i am safe to ttc now or enquire for tests and potential medication to thicken the lining

I can’t see anything to suggest it is not safe to ttc. Have you been told your uterine lining is thin? You are young, you have already had a successful pregnancy, I’m not sure what your concerns are.

Jenny124501 · 16/07/2025 23:11

My concern is going from 5+ days of very heavy bleeding every 28 days to 2 days of light to medium flow every 28- 32 days

I haven’t had anything confirmed but i feel concerned about the changes above

Why are you concerned if doctors aren’t? Like PP said normally you do tests after failing to conceive after a while. I’m not aware of any studies that show fluctuations in your periods mean you’ll have issues once you’re pregnant.

Are you generally healthy? BMI below 30?
Do you eat a healthy mixed diet with lots of fresh fruit &veg? Do you get plenty of exercise? Are your blood pressure and RHR all normal.and stable?

Then go for it. Good luck. 😊

im 34 and thought I was peri menopausal due to my cycle changing randomly to light bleeding, baby 2 conceived on month 2

you will never know till you try, I would just start and see what happens.

Normal variation
Anything can cause slightly longer or shorter menses cycle
Stress etc

What is it you think could be going on to cause you to not be medically fit enough to TTC?

Miraclemuma03 · 17/07/2025 07:52

A woman's cycle changes every 8 to 10yrs naturally, nothing at all makes these changes its just natural changes our body makes for its needs as it ages. If you are wanting to ttc then just go for it. Your not going to really know there is something wrong until you start trying. Good luck on your journey and I hope it happens reasonably quickly for you.

Some things like endometriosis can cause heavier periods and can improve following a pregnancy. It sounds very likely to be normal variation. It does sound like perhaps you suffer with some health anxiety and it could improve your wellbeing to get some support for that?

MotherOfShihTzus · 17/07/2025 09:15

You know your body best so good on you for advocating for yourself - GPs can be pretty dismissive. Definitely purely ask the question at ultrasound as they will be able to see there and then. You’d want c. 7mm+ 5-7 days post ovulation for successful implantation.

I’d Say definitely start trying though! You won’t know until you do try x

NotrialNodeal · 17/07/2025 09:16

Do you think you have health anxiety? I think if you do you should perhaps address that before getting pregnant.

Pigletsstripeyjumper · 17/07/2025 09:45

You’re 27 not 42? Why are you bothering with all these tests? Why not just take folic acid for a while and then start TTC? If you don’t have any medical conditions that you know mean pregnancy could be complicated (like epilepsy or diabetes for example), then can’t you and your partner just start?

Pigletsstripeyjumper · 17/07/2025 09:51

I understand you are anxious about changes to your cycle but I don’t see the point in jumping straight to all these fertility tests. Why not just try for a baby and then look into the medical stuff if it’s not working? At your age it’s really likely you could be pregnant within a month or three. It does take some people a while to get pregnant and some people do have difficulty but equally other people get pregnant on the first cycle they try every time. You won’t really know if it’s easy or not in your case until you start trying.
