Hi ladies,
I guess I'm just curious of what's to be expected.
I discovered I was pregnant after my birthday in March and me and partner (15yrs) were thrilled and in total disbelief- sadly the bub didnt make it past 7wks6days but was not detected until my 1st scan at 10wks - I than opted for a D&C the following week. I bounced back relatively quickly in the sense I got my period 3wks post surgery ovulated albeit late for me CD19 and to my surprise concieved that cycle. The pregnancy kicked off slowish but progression on tests appeared normal. Had a scare with intense cramps and spotted red in two wipes but died down. My tests the following day appeared lighter but in the coming days became darker again and continued to darken. For 2 weeks I had brown spotting but my hcg draws were still promising. They couldn't locate the pregnancy for some time. When it was discovered it was in my left tube and I had some pains of intense gas in my left side radiating to my uterus ans back. I was thinking to opt for methotrexate but had another hcg read that continued to double and with some discomfort it was thought that surgery with tube removal was best for me. (It has started to rupture moments before going into theatre so I can live with the decision made). Day after surgery i spoken with the surgeon who said everything went well and there was no signs of endometriosis or PCOS and it could well have just been bad luck but didnt belive I should have issues trying to concieve moving forward. Im 5 days post surgery- the bleeding has finally stopped and managed my 1st BM today which I was concerned about but all round feeling better every day - my cm had disappeared during the pregnancy and has started to come back again too. Im 33 and terrified from the sheer bad luck I've been having recently. Is there any hope for me? Did you have success after with one tube?
Did it impact your firtility? How many cycles did it take?
Really just scrapping for a glimpse of hope at this point 💕

Hello. I don't have a happy ending yet but just wanted to say I also had ectopic that ruptured and removed my tube in March 2025. I'm now on my second cycle trying again (after the mandatory 3 month break). Id previously had an ectopic in December 2024 that resolved without management.

I had a HSG and my other tube is clear so there are reasons to be hopeful.

I felt absolutely appalling 5 days after the surgery and I imagine youre still in a lot of pain. I was on morphine for the first week which doesn't help with BM -my partner got me a big bottle of liquid laxative which I used for the first ten days or so.

Keep trying to move when you can - little walks to the end of the road and back etc. Will help long term.

I didn't have a period for five weeks after the surgery, it takes a while for things to get back to normal. I was 9 weeks pregnant when I had the operation. It sounds like you were around 6 if I'm reading right, which may mean your HCG will drop faster than mine did and you might get your cycle back a bit faster.

Hugs, I've been exactly where you are and it's horrible. But in even 2 weeks you'll feel much better. Two back to back losses is horrific, and it feels like whiplash, I know how you feel and hope you are okay.

Thank you so much for responding!! It's really easy to feel isolated in times like these.. im so sorry you've had to endure this twice!
You're absolutely right - was 6wk 4days when I went for my surgery. Im a week post now and feeling a lot better. The gas pains were the worst and tender abdo but definitely feel I'm on the mend 🙏.
I took a test today to see how my hcg looked as pre surgery they were dye stealers and now they're of the faintest of faints so I'm hoping things are moving forward.
9 weeks!!!! I never thought ectopics could continue for that long - i was in limbo for almost 2 weeks and it was unbearable - how did you manage???
I've read tuns of success stories but with all the bad luck I've had in such a short space of time I'm not feeling too optimistic.
Why did they give you 3 months before you could try again?
My surgeon told me to give myself 1-2 cycles if I can more for dating purposes.
Thank you so much for reaching out ❤️

Hi I had an ectopic in 2018 and had a tube removed. Ive since had 2 more pregnancies one being twins. The longest taking 5 months of trying. Both pregnancies ovulated from the side with no tube and the other tube floated over to grab the egg which I find amazing! Good luck hope it all goes well for you.

Hey so I had to wait 3 months as I was given methotrexate 2 days before I ruptured - it obviously didn't work but they wanted to give it a go. FWIW I didn't want to and thought I was too far along for it, but I was talked into it. With that medication you can't conceive for 3 months afterwards. It's a horrific drug and considering I then had to immediately undergo surgery whilst suffering the side effects of it (it depletes your folate and stops your cells multiplying as well as the babys it's so bad for you) I think it hindered my recovery a bit.

I was given a scan at 8 weeks which was when the ectopic was diagnosed. My HCG had been rising normally before then - actually rising higher than normal on some reads. Really sad as meant I was so hopeful for the pregnancy, but was always aware it could be as id had one before and kept the (damaged) tube.

It's so hard as we beat the odds in the worst way to have had this happen - 1-2% of pregnancies are ectopic and only around 20% rupture. I try to flip that on its head and think if the chances of conception are 30% each month - and I managed to have something with much worse odds happen to me! - then why can't I fit into that 30 one of these times? If that makes sense!

My goodness! You've really been through it 😞
You know i felt somewhat pressured to try the mtx by some of the nurses but like you I felt I was too far gone as my hcg were rising still quite alot and I was already in pain so I said I would go for the exploratory route and if the see the pregnancy to remove it with the tube and if not ill give the shot a go - luckily they found it! Before I went under it started to become really painful and the nurses by that time was saying surgery is the right decision. I really didnt want to put something so poisonous into my body. Gosh I can't imagine how you must of felt having felt pressured to have the shot then needing surgery ontop.
I know what you mean my hcg weren't really alarming and with my progesterone being beyond optimal and a cosy thick endometrium I was still hopeful in my heart but knew in my head the signs were ALL there with the spotting and lack of symptoms.
I was thinking statistically I am in a bracket where eptopics are more likely but statistics do not take inconsideration of your individual circumstances. So like you I'm trying to flip the narrative or trying to convince myself to keep trying lol.

If I'm ever unfortunate enough to have another ill be pushing hard for surgery straight away. Those days in-between waiting to start bleeding, nothing happening, knowing the HCG didn't change and feeling the achy pain were the absolute worst.

It's so hard as obviously we both felt we knew it could be a risk, but you really cling to the positives (such as I had horrific morning sickness and really felt that was a good sign along with my rising HCG) and can't help but be hopeful. It was a real gut punch to hear they'd found an ectopic on scan - for the second time.

Mostly I'm focused on getting pregnant again right now as can't let the fear of a third rule me, but should I be successful then I know I'll not stop worrying until I see a baby in my uterus where it belongs!

There is much reason to hope and I do actually personally know two people who have had 2 children each after tubal removal and ectopic. There are many positive stories out there. Charlotte from Geordie Shore had one that I remember reading about (this was the first time I'd ever heard of ectopic pregnancy) and she's had healthy pregnancy since too, as has Nicole Kidman. You find once you've had one more people will mention theirs, or a friend's etc. Once you're back out and into the world a bit more like back at work and that, if you choose to be open about it I think you'll be surprised how many people will have had the same thing, or known someone who has - I was anyway! All that to say, there's no reason to suspect this means there won't be a happy ending for us both.

Yes, I dont envy anyone who has suffered that beta/will I rupture/miscarry limbo hell and pray to God I never have that situation again!
You would push for surgery? To remove you remaining tube?
For me because I had a mcc just before my ectopic, I fear the whole process would be difficult for me mentally - like one hurdle over to the next. Find out it not ectopic - great - getting passed 8wks - great - getting passed 12 - great .. probably still counting milestones into their 30th birthday 😂.
My hcg has dropped so much in a week, when I was tracking down for my mmc around this time I had a period a week later so I'm hoping to expect something similar but think I will wait this time to have one full cycle and start ttc after next period. Even though in the back of my mind I'm like but what if I skip that cycle and it was the good one!! Fml.
Managed to for a walk with my dog down the road today which was much better then my attempt 3 days ago! Bless him he's such a good boy, took it very slow for me when usualky he can be a serial puller! Picture of pooch and tests for reference ❤️

Hi, I had an ectopic end of 2015 and lost a tube, miscarriage 2016 and successful pregnancy in 2017. Conceived quickly even with one tube, apparently you can still ovulate every month. Good luck and sorry, I know that's hard to go through.

I don't mean to pry, I'm just so curious because at some point you must have had the same thoughts as me like how king to wait ect.. im really glad it worked out for you - such a blessing it is to carry life and bring into this world, never thought of how powerful it was until I actually wanted it 💕

Hey - from the looks of your test you must be coming to the end now. I never actually did a PT after surgery but had bloods taken so I know it took around 3 weeks or so to go to zero.

I would push for the surgery, I know that sounds strange, but the process of taking the methotrexate and being sent home sick with fear waiting to rupture and then it happening was just too much for me to take I couldn't do it again. The recovery whilst suffering from the methotrexate was also rough I wouldn't want to do that again. I feel like methotrexate might not work a second time and wouldn't want to live that twice.

You can still conceive without tubes with IVF so it wouldn't be the end of the road but would guarantee never having an ectopic again.

Totally hear you on the ticking off milestones, I'm sure I will be the same if I'm lucky enough to catch again! It's a scary time!

Well done on the walk I hope you're having a restful evening now xxx

I hope my story will give you some hope. It is over 30 years ago and mtx was not used. I conceived easily for my first, but had been trying for a while before the ectopic and had the tube removed at around 7 weeks. I later had a second ectopic, but had gone to a different hospital and the tube was repaired . The gynae suggested trying IVF, but I accidentally got pregnant while waiting. I miscarried, but it was in the right place and I subsequently had 2 more children.
may the time I was completely devastated. There is hope for you xx

I totally hear you and get it, I was in limbo from 5wks as it was always in the back of my mind that it was ectopic since having the brown spotting and lower side betas and being home alone I was absolutely petrified waiting for a rupture so I can't imagine how you were feeling along with taking the MTX. How did you feel on that stuff?
I'm hoping to expect AF next week or early following 🙏 (if I'm following the same kind of timeline previously) but I think i will ttc the following cycle but still track to understand my body or new normal as not really sure what to expect.
We will get there one- however the route! 💕

I had surgery for an ectopic pregnancy in 2022. I went on to conceive DD 2nd month trying ☺️ we waited a year after the surgery to TTC, but that was mainly because we moved to a new town and I started a new job x

Sorry, I have been trying to remember as it was 30 years ago, but I think 6 -12 months. After that I didn’t try. The pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage was an accident. I was going to try IVF. After the early miscarriage- we decided to try again as the pregnancy had been in the correct place

That's amazing!!! We're both quite eager to try again as it seems of late we've had a significant boost of firtility just hope losing a tube hasn't hindered that. @ForLemonSnailI'm sorry you’ve had such a tough time. I completely empathise - I had a miscarriage and also then conceived the very next cycle. That ended in a ruptured ectopic too in June 2023, and I had my right tube removed. We tried for a while after, before then deciding that that was it for us. We have a daughter already and I’m a fair bit older than you, so just thought it wasn’t going to happen and started coming to terms with it. Anyway, we weren’t exactly careful, just stopped actively trying to conceive and so fast forward to last Xmas and surprise! I’m now 36 weeks pregnant and everything has gone perfectly so far. When I had a scan at the EPU at 6 weeks they also told me that I’d conceived from the side I’d lost my tube. If we hadn’t given up on trying maybe it wouldn’t have taken so long, who knows… but that’s my success story anyway - I hope you get yours soon.

Oh wow! Very similar story to mine.. my surgeon said that there were no correlation with the mmc and ectopic which I've struggled with because we caught 1st cycle after which makes me a little apprehensive trying after I get AF but I'm not the professional I guess. We're so desperate to start our family now. I've been with my partner since we were 17 and did fall pregant many years ago but we were so young and absolutely not ready for a little one - we opted for a termination and we've both recently opened up about it because of all this loss we've had and we both deeply regret our decision and feel as though we're being punished for our previous actions. I feel some sense of closure now and hope to be open to another pregnancy soon - your story truly gives me so much hope - thank you! 💕
