Early Perimenopause at 30? TTC with New Partner – Feeling Lost and Need Advice

Hi all,

I’m 30 (nearly 31) and have two lovely DSs (3 and 7) from a previous relationship. Over the past year, I’ve noticed big changes in my cycle – it’s gone from a regular 33 days to now more like 20 days, and my periods are different every month. Sometimes painful, sometimes not. I went to the GP and after two rounds of bloods and a lot of questions about health and family history, she mentioned it could be signs of perimenopause.

I was really shocked and honestly quite upset. My partner (who’s nearly 40 and doesn’t have children) and I have been TTC for nearly 8 months. He’s been amazing and supportive, but it’s been hard – especially as I’ve been doing ovulation tests and they’ve all been negative. The GP said there’s no treatment needed and we should just keep trying, but I’m finding it all really disheartening. She also told me that because I already have two children, I wouldn’t qualify for IVF or any NHS fertility treatment.

I guess I’m looking for anyone who’s been through something similar? Is there anything that helped you? Is it possible to conceive naturally if you’re showing signs of early perimenopause? I’m just feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed, and would love to hear from others who’ve been in this boat.

Thank you in advance. X

If she believes you are in menopause at 30 you should be referred to a specialist. This would be first step. Then they can talk about treatments to help you conceive. Yes you won’t qualify for ivf but you will get a diagnosis for the problem and possible treatments.
you need to push for this with your gp. Get a second opinion if you must but make sure you are referred to a specialist.
