Strong positive 7dpo with 6pm wee!?

Hello!

Wondering if you guys can help me work out what’s gone on!

Have been TTC for two months now. The first was very lax. Didn’t track my ovulation and just went by the generic dates the app gave me. 2nd month (this month) I had a period (heavy and long which is usual for me) and a medium OPK reading on the first day after my period. After that my LH levels rose and I have then had positive OPKs for 10 days including today. The app identified 3 spikes in my LH, the first being CD9 which would put my earliest possible ovulation according to the OPKs at CD10. I’m now on CD17 and on a whim (after reading lots of positive OPKs can mean pregnancy) I’ve taken a test and it’s positive, and a strong positive?!

how can this be? Do you think I fell pregnant last cycle and just had a normal period anyway?! It was really heavy, like getting up in the night to change my super tampon and my heavy duty period knickers because I’ve soaked through. So it feels off that I could have stayed pregnant through that?! But if not… it’s a strong positive from 7dpo?! The first time we DTD this cycle was CD8. So I guess if the OPKs failed me and I actually ovulated earlier the earliest fertilisation could have happened was CD8 which would still only be 9 days later! Which still feels too early to have such a glaringly obvious positive!

I’m confused. Happy. But confused!

any ideas on what’s gone on?!

thank you x

I’d say it’s unlikely you fell last cycle. I think you probably ovulated earlier than you thought and you might have implanted early too. That’s why there is so much variance between what we think and what can happen.
Implantation can happen anywhere between 6-12 DPO- that’s a huge variation when you think about it. If you ovulated CD8 and implanted CD14 then you still had 3 days for your hCG levels to rise to a detectable level.

Or it’s twins. Ha!

EmmRach · 25/06/2025 15:19

@Groundhogday2025 thank you so much for your reply!

Yeah I didn't think it could be a possibility of being pregnant from my last cycle. Given how heavy it was.

I've just done a clearblue digital test and the plot thickens because it says 2-3 weeks... at 8DPO. Which surely is impossible!

So maybe it's twins... or something more sinister like a molar or ectopic?!

Rang the GP today who didn't want to know... of course. Sad

I've brushed up on the worrying symptoms to watch out for.... and I guess now I just have to wait and see?!

My very good friend conceived her second daughter whilst her husband was away on business for 3 weeks 😂 in the nineties.
He’s 100% the father - the kids are now in their late twenties and their DD is the spit of him and his side of the family.
Who knows how the little buggers get around, maybe hide, then swim up later?? Who knows?? but it was almost impossible for my friend to be pregnant and her DD was born exactly on the due date too.
i conceived on Day 9 - and I know cos that was the only night and it was a strong robust pregnancy.
Many congrats and I hope everything goes really well for you @EmmRach xx

Those clear blues weeks ones (or any home tests really!) aren’t accurate at all at testing hCG levels, only blood tests can give accurate hCG levels and even then the range of “normal” varies so much between women. Really I wouldn’t worry or overthink it. This happens to lots of people because these tests aren’t really telling you how pregnant you are, they are just telling you that you are pregnant.

No point worrying about something out of your control, but the main thing is… congratulations!!! 🥳 wishing you a successful and healthy pregnancy.

Don't wish to scare you at all but just to share my experience and let you know what to be aware of.

This did happen to me, I had what I believed was a period (heavy) and then tested positive only two weeks after the period and was extremely confused. This was an ectopic pregnancy. I probably would have tested positive shortly after the bleed but obviously didn't test once I started bleeding.

So this can happen. I had my HCG monitered to show whether it was rising normally (it was not). It really could be simply that you are already producing a lot of HCG at 9dpo and I hope that is the case for you - 2-3 weeks means you've got 2500 HCG or over. It's not outside the realm of normal to have that level at 9dpo, but it is unusual. It could also have been that you did catch last cycle and were carrying twins and lost one.

In your shoes I would call EPU and explain the exact situation, state how many days since your last bleed (17?) and that you have a strong positive test and have ectopic concern.

Dinnerout · 25/06/2025 16:46

I had only tested btw as had to for a medical procedure. I wasn't expecting a positive. It was around 13/14 days after the bleed which is obviously more abnormal than 17!

EmmRach · 25/06/2025 22:42

@Lilactimes
Hahah I love that story!! That’s brilliant. I hope you’re right and it’s a case of a medical mystery but a happy one!!

Thank you @Groundhogday2025 , I didn’t realise that they weren’t to be fully trusted in terms of the weeks prediction! Interesting!

@Dinnerout thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry that happened. Yes ectopic is one of the things I’m concerned about. I called my GP this morning and the EPU this afternoon and got fobbed off by both. Neither wanted to know despite me stating I had concerns about an ectopic pregnancy. I think I’ll have to wait and hope and see…

Out of interest what were your symptoms with the ectopic, would you mind sharing your experience so I’ve an idea of what to look out for rather than a list of symptoms on google? Totally understand if it’s a bit too rough to speak about though.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to reply.

I shall report back once I know what’s going on…. Xx

I've had two - the one referenced and a second where I started bleeding 2 days after a VVFL (so faint that you really could have missed it). The first one the only symptoms were continued pinkish discharge and cramps - however that ectopic resolved itself without intervention and did not become too advanced. The HCG rise was abnormal and slow.

The second one I had continual cramps which I was told can be totally normal!!! The HCG rose normally and I had bad morning sickness. No discharge no further bleeding. This pregnancy continued until 9 weeks when I ruptured.

So honestly it's very hard as cramps were the only symptom really. Id recommended booking an early scan at 6 weeks as that will flag something most likely.

EmmRach · 26/06/2025 16:27

@Dinnerout oh bless you. Jeeez that must have been tough for the 2nd time. I'm so sorry.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer and to share your experience.

I will 100% be doing that. I need to know what's going on. It's absolutely worth the cash.

Thanks again x

Reporting back, for anyone who may come across this - with some good news!!!

A scan today showed a healthy normal 5 to 6 week pregnancy with a little heartbeat flickering away.

I'm beyond happy. No idea how it's happened! The very earliest I could have ovulated would make me 16DPO.

The nurse and ultrasound tech at the hospital were stumped. But assured me all looks healthy and maybe it's just "one of those things"!

Huge thank you for the advice and for previous posters info. Xx

That's amazing! What a relief for you all and bubba is a medical marvel to boot 😂

EmmRach · 18/08/2025 16:25

So again, for anyone who may come across this, further info… and a reason for the bleeding

so I bled very badly at about 11 weeks. I went to A&E who then referred me to EPU for a scan and it turns out I have an extra sub chorionic haemorrhage. Baby is still happy enough and the bleeding should calm down / is nothing major to worry about. They’re hoping the bleed will disappear by 20 weeks. So I’m paying for some private scans to track it hopefully decreasing.

Great to hear an update from you and sorry you had to go through a scare. I had major bleeding and pain at 10 weeks with my youngest so I know how it feels. After they saw the baby fine on a scan, they thought it must be appendicitis but nope, and I never got any answers about the pain or the bleeding! 🤞🏻 yours clears up and everything is straightforward from then 😊
