Low AMH and 7 folicles

I’ve just had my results back from fertility testing as I am 41 and had 2 miscarriages within 1 year. I only have 7 follicles in total which is a low ovarian reserve. I’ve just had my AMH results back at 1.8 which she said was low. She said IVF isn’t possibly but I could get pregnant naturally with risk of miscarriage. I feel absolutely deflated and need some advice from anyone who has been through this. She recommended q10 to take and to keep trying!

Could you get a second opinion? Im not sure why ivf couldnt work for you if they saw 7 follicles. I think ivf would work for you and you could have your embryos tested. Im not an expert, I only know my own ivf treatment which was pretty straight forward but I also have low egg reserve and poorer quality eggs and ivf has worked for me. I usually get 5 follicles, can usually get 4 fertilised and 3 embryos, though they dont always make a baby so have had to do multiple rounds. I hope someone else has some more answered for and has more information.

You absolutely can do ivf.I am doing ivf(private) in August and I only have 3 follicles.I had 5 follicles on my successful round with my daughter when I was 40.We had 2 eggs retrieved and 2 embyros.x

You can have ivf but I would try and get as much info as you can to inform your next steps.

My AMH was lower than yours (1.5) and in my late thirties I did 3 rounds of IVF. I got 1-2 “good” embryos each time (with low numbers of follicles) but ultimately the three rounds failed. I was thinking “what next?” And considering giving up. Then, out of the blue, I got pregnant naturally at 39 and gave birth at 40. She’s now a very active and cheeky 11 month old.

I don’t regret doing IVF despite it costing me and my husband a lot of money (I think ultimately there is an aspect of luck and I just didn’t have it at that time) but I do recognise now that the difference in chances of live birth, with low AMH and advancing age, between trying naturally and ivf are not as big as I initially assumed. It is worth probing that - it may be the consultant is really saying “you can do ivf, but the money and physical/mental toll may not give you a much increased chance over trying naturally”. Then it is more of a judgement call for you.

wishing you the very best of luck, whatever you decide x
