Anyone with TPO antibodies?! So over my head here!

I had a MC blood work up, TPO antibodies 166. My clinic is so awful with communication and I am so overwhelmed, going to move private clinics.
in the meantime has anyone conceived with TPO antibodies and a normal thyroid without having intervention?

background - MMC at 9 weeks a year ago, 2 very very very early chemicals at 8dpo, 30 years old

Hi, I had similar results for TPO antibodies (even a bit higher) when tested. It's only an indicator that you are probably going to develop Hashimoto's at one point in your life if you haven't done it yet. As long as your TSH and T4 values are in the normal range, the existence of antibodies have no effect on conception. As far as I know it's only the abnormal levels of the T4 hormone which interferes with conception.

At that point when I was tested I was already out of the normal range for every marker, so I had to start taking medication, and conceived shortly after my values went back to normal (it only took a few weeks).

I can't recommend you a private clinic, I have only seen my GP about this, but try not to worry too much, it's a very common condition which can be kept under control quite easily.

Oh,and unfortunately you cannot get rid of the antibodies with medicaiton either, but as long as your T4 levels are fine, you can maintaine a healthy pregnancy :)

What is your TSH level? The level for conception and fertility is lower than what is considered ‘normal’ the rest of the time. Lots of evidence online that TSH needs to be below 2 or 2.5 (depending on the source) where’s NHS ‘normal’ range is around up to 4.

SparkDiSparkle · 19/06/2025 09:38

When they discovered that something was wrong, it was around 6. With medication it went down to 1.

Thank you so much for replying @SparkDiSparkle @bumblebeedum

The private clinic I am with still haven’t sent me over my results but I have been told my throyid levels are fine but due to my TPO antibodies they will attack any pregnancy and I will need steroids?!

The clinic has been totally useless and I have sent them a chaser for my copy of the results as I have only had the consult run through them with me.

If I’m being honest the whole experience at this clinic so far has just been a ton of dis jointed information and I am paying so much money. I had an ultrasound scan as they put me on letrzole (even tho I already ovulate) and I was told that an area near the top of my uterus didn’t have a triple layer. Told I have to have a hycosy to see if any scarring from my MVA last year. However I got back home did some research and as I was 12 days away from ovulation still that’s pretty normal. I then emailed the consultant and they said yes that could be the reason. Never telling me this in the scan instead leaving me with floods of tears.

everytime I ask them about it since they avoid answering me about being scanned at the wrong time as they clearly messed up.

it doesn’t help I have health anxiety at the best of times and now every time I speak to them I’m having to remind them what they said to me last time?!?

hence now wanting to move clinics but I don’t know if I need to see an immune specialist as they have terrified me!

sorry I am so overwhelmed:(

I have raised TPO antibodies and I’ve never heard anything about ‘attacking’ a pregnancy. The only issue I know of is your TSH being over 2/2.5 making pregnancy less like to start or continue. Might be worth looking for a new clinic from what you’ve said.

SparkDiSparkle · 19/06/2025 14:58

Poor you :( Try not to worry, TPO antibodies are not dangerous for a pregnancy! I wouldn't be going back to this clinic if I were you, what a weird thing to suggest taking steroids... A good thyroid-clinic will know everything you need.

Sunshinehope12 · 19/06/2025 15:26

ok just finally got hold of my results;

Tsh 2.58
t4 15.8

@bumblebeedum @SparkDiSparkle so looks like I’m on the cusp?

also ladies thank you so much :(

Hi ladies so after some research I reached out to my nhs gp to try and get the drug that lowers your tsh and if they can’t use my private blood results will try another way :( ergh

@Sunshinehope12: my TSH is 2.55 and TPO Peroxidase antibodies are 144, so only slightly lower than yours. I have had six first trimester miscarriages since 2018 and have one DC. Am 42 years old. I have been prescribed thyroxine and prednisolone from Dr Shehata's CRP Clinic in Epsom.

Sunshinehope12 · 14/08/2025 18:44

Hi @TammyinCork so after I posted this I have been given the medication and I’ve now been on it for 6 weeks, I changed clinics and both my nhs and new clinic want me on it.
we got this 💕
