Conception supplements over 40

Hi,

Just wondering what supplements / vitamins people are taking (especially if over 40) to support conception?

I’ve been taking Proceive Max (and other vitamins) for about a year but feel like a change.

I saw Ova in boots yesterday and I’m quite interested in trying these. Has anyone used these before?

Thanks ☺️

It's the age of your eggs that is the issue, and supplements aren't going to help that, I would not have thought.

We were TTC 38-40 and finally fell pregnant when I was 40, 1.5 months after I started taking Ubiquinol every day and Agnus Castus CD1-14. I swapped Pregnacare to Proceive Max at the same time.

Same age here, I take agnus cactus, ubiquinol, b6, pregnacare, raspberry leaf
ttc 2 years now….
v regular ovulation and periods still so feeling like there’s still a chance

@1SillySossijthanks but that wasn’t my question.

Thank you @Olika and @2025babyfever. I’ve been doing lots of research over the past year and take some other supplements too but haven’t heard of Angus Castus. Will look into that.

I hadn’t thought about it either until I went to H&B and had a chat with a sales girl whose friend was struggling and she had looked into what supplements she could get for her friend. With Agnus Castus you shouldn’t take it when pregnant or breastfeeding hence I only took it cycle days 1-14 and then waited to see if my periods arrived. I was on another thread where the OP fell pregnant once she had started taking Evening Primrose Oil CD1-14 but I don’t have personal experience on that.

I am considering trying Agnus Castus to balance progesterone and estrogen. I have read that low progesterone can cause infertility and is common in women in their final reproductive years. I take Blackmores Conceive Well Gold as a prenatal vitamin which includes fish oil.

I eat well and exercise, don’t drink or smoke.

Im 39, will be 40 this coming July. I was prescribed by my ivf clinic a compound they make for their patients, it wasnt cheap but it has things like coq10, dhea, melatonin, folic acid and a couple other ingredients. They are hoping it will boost the quality of my eggs so we hopefully have a better outcome for our next cycle.

I’ve just switched from Proceive to Ovum. Contains no rubbish and has a lot of good stuff - folate, Coq10, ALA, NAC, vitamin d and c… means I don’t need to take quite such a big handful!

Purplegiraffe345 · 26/05/2025 20:54

I also use Ovum, it was the closest match to what it says to take in “it starts with the egg” p, I supplement that with omega 3.

To be honest, I think they are the same.
My fertility consultant told me not to waste the money on an expensive supplements. He told me just take a general pre conception vitamin, vitamin d ( as we don't get enough in this country) ans folic acid. Nothing else as theres nothing that's been scientifically proven to improve egg quality in us older women
At least not ant studies that aren't paid for by the companies selling and profiting from them.
I took every supplement under the sun during my ivf round few years ago .I was spending over £200 a month on supplements
Absolutely did nothing for egg quality.
I'm currently starting ivf again and this time I'm just taking a multi vitamin. I took proceive last round. Liked that it didn't have fillers compared to pregnacare

I've been taking my ova for 2 months, I chose it over proceive
, simply because I have pcos and my ova contains inositol which is important for women like me as it helps with my insulin resistance and I actually had my first regular period in months after taking it. I like that it has it included as I was taking too many tablets separately and I was forgetting to take them most days .
Although my ova is designed for women with pcos. As said it contains myo inositol . Some women who don't have pcos said it made their cycles irregular.

I would definitely use it again but recently switched to my ovum as it contained higher amount of nac and Ala 600mg , which ala is also important for me as a pcos sufferer as helps blood glucose .
I won't be buying it again tho , on advice of my dr as it doesn't contain many of the essential nutrients needed . For one it has no iron or magnesium for starters.
I think I will stick with proceive and for me personally add ala and inositol.
I like that my ova has these but it does have lower amounts of , Iron and vitamin e of the top of my head. And i like it has q10 although I'm skeptical q10 actually does anything as you simply can't improve age related egg quality. It's unfortunately part of the natural process of aging 😕 For my with in ova I also needed to take 4 a day , which is part of the problem for me . 2 in morning 2 at evening and i could never remember come the evening have I already these this evening 😆 so most days this past month I wasn't taking the adequate amount.
I also take vitex agnus castus but I take it to regulate periods however just be careful with it , I've seen quite a few women who don't have pcos saying they took it and it made their cycles completely messed up. Personally I'd just stick with proceive if I was you. There's no need to change from a good supplement that has everything you need. If I had regular cycles, i wouldnt risk anything that might affect them
