Mirena coil to prevent further polyps?

Hi everyone.

I am a 29 year old female and last March I had a small (<1cm) endometrial polyp removed and it was benign. I fell pregnant in May but due to personal circumstances had a TOP. Me and my partner absolutely want children but not for a couple years. I recently had a scan and I have ANOTHER polyp, slightly bigger this time. I’ve been referred back to Gynaecology for removal again. I’m currently not on any contraception, we are just using condoms. It’s been suggested by my GP that the Mirena coil may be a good idea to have in until I’m ready to try for a baby as it is known to reduce the chance of further polyps forming.

Im asking for advice - all I’ve read is horror stories about the coil! However I want to try it if it will stop these bloody polyps growing back.

I had an endometrial polyp, but a recent scan showed that it was gone. They can go away on their own. Does your polyp cause symptoms? If not, you don’t need to remove it unless you want children.

Estrogen dominance can cause polyps.

I haven’t had a coil so I can’t help you with that. I considered it, and my doctor said that sometimes the man can feel it during sex.

Maybe you can ask the gynaecologist for some further advice.

The coil is like marmite. Does not solve gynae issues, I did hear it was a money generator (unsure whether both primary and nhs) for every device they fit.

They told me to get one for a fibroid then after inserting said actually it was erratic periods. Drip bleed for 5 months, some women it works a dream for.

I’m wanting children in the next few years. And it’s quite a large polyp so I doubt it’ll go on its own - it’s 19mm. My periods are slightly worse since I’ve found out I have another one x

Oh wow yes that is a large one. Mine was 4mm.

I was scheduled to have a dialation and curette, hysterscopy as well as polypectomy. I think I spelled them all wrong but you know what I mean!

What surgery are you having?

Hysteroscopy and Polypectomy under GA

I don’t know how much I believe the scans though, when I had one last year it was 17mm but when it was removed the consultant said it was under 10mm, so 😂😂 it’s probably not even that big
