Weight loss jabs + infertility

Has anyone used weight loss jabs to lose weight for fertility? I am currently 3 stone overweight, and my BMI is 32 (obese). In the past I seem to have been able to get pregnant when my BMI is around 30, but end up in miscarriages. I really want a baby but I know I need to lose weight. It has just crept up over the years as I have gotten older (37).

I'm torn between losing weight naturally, which is a slow process for me due to my PCOS, and continuing TTC. Or going on the weight loss jabs for 3 months or so to try to kick start weight loss.

Would love to hear from those who have lost weight on these for fertility, did it work? How long were you on them? And how long did you come off them for before TTC.

The thought of stopping TTC scares me as I feel I'm just getting older and want a baby so badly, but I know the weight is a big issue for me.

I would be worried about taking the jabs in case there were fertility related side effects.

Oh really? Thats interesting, I haven't heard anything about it negatively impacting fertility. I've actually heard the opposite, in that it improves fertility especially for those with PCOS. Must look into it a bit more to see what it says.

You are supposed to come off them 3 months before TTC I think so it depends if you can wait for the weight loss plus the 3 months interim period. I wouldn't want to do that. I also have PCOS: I've had DD1 using letrozole for ovulation induction when I was 34 and had a BMI of 27. DD2 was a natural conception when I was 37. I had a BMI of 32, I did Fast 800, lost 12kg in 12weeks and found i was pregnant at the end of those 12weeks. My BMI was 29 at booking. So if you want to keep TTC whilst losing, I'd recommend looking at fast 800 instead.

To be fair, I've not done research! So don't take my comment as scientific 🤣. I'm loosing weight TTC and I feel a bit peeved that loads of people think I'm on the injections 😂😂

My doctor only wanted me off them for 1 month before starting IVF.

Id do it. And probably more than three months TBH. See if you can get your BMI down to
25. It seems to have positive effects on fertility anecdotally.

Not much to offer but just wanted to let you know I am in the same boat. TTC for 5 years with one chemical. I’ve been on Mounjaro for just over 3 months and have lost 14kg but no success yet in terms of getting pregnant. Hoping it helps though. Just got into the overweight category so now weigh 76kg but BMI still 29 ish

That's amazing! Well done. I have never heard of the fast 800 diet but just had a look and it sounds good. Did you stick to 800 a day for the full 12 weeks? Were you exercising? I'd also like to get into exercising a bit to help with the mental health side of things so would be nervous of being on too little calories to work out.

I'd prefer a diet over the weight loss jabs, i just struggle to keep at them and also to find foods/meals I like

That's good to know, thanks. We are meeting with a fertility specialist next month so I think I will run it by her and see what she says and what her clinics rules are.

Well done on your weightloss, that's a great achievement so far.

Are you still on the jabs whilst TTC?

That's funny a friend of mine actually said this to me, that no matter what I do if I start to lose weight people will assume I'm on the jabs anyway!!

I managed to stick to around 1000-1200kcal per day. So still a good loss even though i didn't follow it to the letter. I didnt really up my exercise because I'd gone back to work after mat leave and was doing the whole work / childcare juggle, but I just tried to incorporate lots more walking in my day. The app is really expensive - you can do it cheaply just with the books, but I found the app helpful because you could select all your meals for the week and it generated you a shopping list. We'd bought an air fryer not long beforehand and just wanted everything to be quick and simple so that we were incentivised to stick at it!

Hi. I was on Wegovy for about a year and two months starting last year. Not primarily for fertility (although I did want to weigh much less during a pregnancy), but for overall health in general. I have physical disabilities and the less I weigh the better.

I lost 3 and a half stone in that time and it’s been incredible for my health overall. My cycles have actually shortened slightly to always over 35 days, to between 28 and 35 days. I’m 40.

I came off the jab for two months before removing my contraception, as that’s how long it takes for that particular one to leave your system. Confirmed by my digestive tract returning to “normal”, (no more constipation and intolerant to gluten once again). With Mounjaro apparently it’s only a month, and I plan to go on that after I’ve had a baby if I’m lucky enough to fall pregnant. BMI is still around 31 so I’d qualify.

I put 5-7lb back on after stopping, and have maintained for three months since then. Which seems about normal compared to other stories I’ve read. No doubt I will be in a much better position to carry a pregnancy at this new weight.

SW: 17st 3lb
LW: 13st 7lb
CW: 13st 12lb
