Max age to try for baby

What age would you give up trying naturally for a baby. I find it upsetting every month and want to know when really it’s going to be unlikely. I am 41 now. Would 43 or 42 be an age to give up?

At your age, I would consider getting tests done now. Obviously continue trying in the mean time but it's good to get the ball rolling. Do you have any children already?

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 08/05/2025 13:53

If I were you, I’d have moved on to IVF with PGT-A testing, but that’s also because, for me, those tested-for syndrome would have been an abortion event

Sara1003 · 08/05/2025 16:54

I have already had tests and all seems fine. I won’t be doing IVF again so was really just wondering when to give up.

Give up when you feel ready. Or when your definitely into menopause .
There is no definite age that is a cut off for all.

PaperSheet · 08/05/2025 18:24

I gave up at 43.5. Giving birth at 44 was my absolute cut off.

I’m nearly 40 and wondering the same!
my friend is 45 and is still hopeful to conceive

Lacatrina · 09/05/2025 08:46

41/42/43 still seems like a realistic age. 44 I believe it the tipping point in which it becomes rather unlikely. 46 miraculous. Obv this is a generalisation

Summersun91 · 09/05/2025 10:30

I conceived my first at 41 and now 18w with my second at 43. I probably would have kept actively trying until I was 44.

Were you trying long?
that gives me hope!

I’d just nature take its course and not think about it. So if it happens it happens. My sister had her baby at 45 and a friend at 46 (I had mine at 41 and 43 but was trying and fortunately got pregnant within a few months). Neither were trying - my sister has PCOS and was told that and her age she couldn’t get pregnant so she stopped birth control. My friend had married at 29 and just thought what will be will be and had pretty much come to accept she wouldn’t have kids when boom. I would stop any charting or monitoring or whatever if that’s what you are doing.

Olika · 09/05/2025 11:06

If I hadn’t had my DD at 41 then probably I would have continued trying until 44/45.

Olika · 09/05/2025 11:07

Also are you taking any supplements?

It wasn’t immediate but I guess not too long. I did have some miscarriages though:

  • 1st pregnancy took 7 cycles to conceive age 40 (MMC)
  • 2nd pregnancy took 5 cycles to conceive, conceived age 41 (healthy)
  • 3rd pregnancy was not actively trying and periods had only just come back so 1st cycle age 42 (MMC)
  • 4th pregnancy took 5 cycles to conceive, conceived age 43 (18w now)
Tiddlywinkly · 09/05/2025 14:40

I'd say 44/45

2025babyfever · 09/05/2025 20:04

I’m 2 years ttc #4 now
I think I’ll keep trying another good few years though
