Confused - how bright are evaporation lines?

Hi All,

I took a test this morning and completely forgot about it. Not sure if this is an evaporation line, it’s very bright and blue!

It looks really strong for an indent but who knows! Maybe try another in the morning x

MagicStarMama · 27/04/2025 16:31

Looks very positive. Have you got anymore?

Springadorable · 27/04/2025 16:33

Did you check it within the time window? If you didn't and came back later I'd say it's a positive. If you checked in the time and it was negative and this appeared after say thirty mins I'd say it's an evap (but a very bright one so would still retest). If it is positive it's a strong one so you'll get a positive at any time of day I'd say.

TheyreThreeTheyreSixTheyreNineandTen · 27/04/2025 16:34

Retest op. You are opening yourself up to heartache by considering this a positive when it’s so long after the window to read the test by.

Good luck 🍀

Evap lines are colourless and having had 6 children never seen one, even the absolute faintest line (much fainter than your picture) always turned out to be positive and resulted in a baby 8+ months later (although one very early miscarriage but showed positive on more than one test and period was late, then line gradually got fainter until gone within a couple of days )
Yes and often checked the tests even hours later and not a hint of a line when was negative

Thank you! Will wait a few days and retest 🤞🏽

I think it was probably after 10 mins so outside of the time window 😞

Best of luck x If it shows up negative next time it will have been a very early mc but that looks a fairly strong positive at the moment so hopefully all good x

“Evap lines are colourless”

Yeah they’re really really not. I have had many bright blue (but thin) lines on clearblue and was absolutely not pregnant. (As in had a blood test less than 2 hours later and that was absolutely 100% negative). You only have to search on here (and Google generally) to see how many people have had the same.

I’m not saying the OP is not pregnant. But I do think she should just be cautious until it is confirmed but a different test or a digital. I don’t think it’s helpful to tell people that if the next test is negative they’ve definitely had an early miscarriage.

That is a very cruel thing to say when op left the test too long and the next test has said negative.
Why would you purposely set someone up to feel the heartache of a mc rather than realistically say the test is invalid and you need to retest? Just awful.

Well if it was me I’d prefer to know that I had conceived rather than someone try and pretend it was a so called fluke of the test that doesn’t exist. That’s not being cruel

A negative blood test following a positive urine test isn’t unknown in the case of a very early miscarriage.

Cool. If that’s what you want to believe then fine. But just because something hasn’t happened to you or people you know doesn’t make it true.

When I had thin blue evaps on those tests, pink dyes (including FRERs which are MORE sensitive than clearblue) were negative, digital tests with the same sensitivity were negative, a blood test TWO HOURS later was negative. HCG does not drop from 10+ to under 2 in 2 hours. It just doesn’t. In fact when I had an actual early miscarriage it took a week for the tests to fade to fully negative. My local EPU even advises against using clearblue tests due to known evap lines.

No one on here, including me, is randomly for fun going about telling people they’re definitely not pregnant if there’s a chance they could be. People just advise that this brand are KNOWN for coloured evap lines so the OP should take a different test. (Which she did and it was negative). She might still be pregnant. But I guess if she or others would rather believe they are getting pregnant and miscarrying rather than believe the tests are shit then that’s their choice.

Boxoo · 27/04/2025 20:08

In fact there was a thread here the other day where someone’s husband got a line on one of those tests. I guess he had an early miscarriage as well.

I disagree, it’s impossible to say if it’s read outside the time window. These tests are awful. I’ve had this reading on one of those and I definitely wasn’t pregnant. Please don’t tell people they’ve had an early miscarriage when you cannot possibly know. As someone who has had many miscarriages, I find this quite offensive.

ChompinCrocodiles · 27/04/2025 20:40

I know they say don't read outside the time window.

However, in my experience (4 pregnancies, 3 dc, several months of unsuccessful trying before success each time) - every single test I've ever done that was truly negative and no resulting pregnancy, stayed blank. Even if checked hours later.

With each one of my 4 pregnancies I had the same experience. My first test was 'negative' when checked within the time window. When I checked the test ten minutes later, it was a faint positive. Then a couple of days later I'd get a positive within the time window.

TY78910 · 27/04/2025 20:42

This is wilder than some of the COVID theories I’ve seen over the years.

The logic in this ‘clinicians article’ maybe be right in general for most pregnancy tests. There are hundreds of brands out there. CB very clearly work differently (whether it’s the strength of the dye, or there are more chemicals in that control line than other tests, I don’t know) but they always turn blue after the time frame. I’ve had four pregnancies and used CB countless times and after binning them when they’ve been blank, I’d see they have blue lines hours later. You cannot take one person’s perspective and apply it to absolutely every single thing as there will always be exceptions.
