NHS Fertility Treatment - Advice!

Hi - looking for some advice please!

I am due to start NHS fertility treatment after paying privately for the past year for all things investigatory.

The last conversation I had with the consultant when referred was that I would begin IUI for 3 rounds, and then progress to IVF is unsuccessful.

whilst waiting for the referral to come through, we have tried 5 rounds of letrozole, but only ovulated the first two times, then it stopped working. Even after increasing the dose.

Do you think I will still be asked to do IUI before IVF if I cannot ovulate even with medication?

has anyone been in this situation?

TIA!!

I haven't been in your exact position but if I was you, I'd go straight to IVF. Don't waste time with IUI if your not ovulating regularly. Can't waste time in these situations.

This is what I’m hoping to do 🤞🏼
I know the IUI was a hurdle we have to pass, but if I’m not ovulating even with the medication I was hoping we skip that step. X

Has anyone been in this situation? I have been led to believe I have to have the IUI before I’m eligible for IVF?

Hi op have a google of your local nhs policy as it’s a postcode lottery as to what you are eligible to receive.

good luck on your journey x

I am eligible for both IUI and IVF, I am just unsure if I HAVE to have the IUI before I progress to IVF. That part isn’t clear.

What’s the policy wording? It may be that a round of iui is required as part of the pathway? Or your consultant may bypass this if they feel it won’t be beneficial. it’s so area dependent do you mind sharing where you are then people may be able to advise more.

I hope it all goes well whatever the path x

I’m South Yorkshire. The policy is worded to say both IUI and IVF should be offered if appropriate. But if I am really against IUI I don’t know if I can decline it.

I have had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy and multiple dye tests and both tubes are now open. So I now qualify for IUI.

I have endo and PCOS and just cannot seem to ovulate.
But with no male factor, I just don’t know how beneficial IUI is going to be if I can’t even ovulate.

I just don’t want to spend month after month trying to figure out the right dose to cause ovulation.

i am exhausted from the last few months of trying this. 😩

Hi it’s definitely exhausting, I’ve been through ivf & its emotional too, make sure you look after yourself 🤗 which I know is easier said than done!

Im not in your area but to me it sounds like when you discuss with your consultant they can say IUI isn’t appropriate & go straight to IVF though there are no guarantees, (ivf works miracles for some people but I didn’t ovulate with ivf & needed an egg donor to have my little boy)

sending you strength & luck op, please be kind to yourself, I hope it works out for you xx
