when I went for my early scan I was 8 weeks but when I’ve worked it back that meant I was on my period. Was I 6 weeks and they added 2 weeks on due to my LMP? Confusing 🫤

Pregnancy is usually dated from the first day of your last period.

Did they tell you that you are 8 weeks? If so, this is usually based off the size of the fetus.

Yeah my scan said 8 weeks pregnant. So going back 8 weeks is my second day of period which I didn’t have sex. So have they added 2 weeks on?

Pregnancy is dated from the first day of your last period, which is assumed to be two weeks before you ovulated. So if they say you are 8 weeks pregnant, this actually means it is 6 weeks since you ovulated.

Yes my scan goes of my LMP but 8 weeks ago I was on my period and didn’t have sex until two weeks later. So I presume when I went for my scan I was actually 6 weeks not 8?

All your dates match up.

When they say 8 weeks pregnant they actually mean you are 6 weeks pregnant because they are counting the two weeks before you ovulated as part of your pregnancy.

Ah right that makes sense :)

Yes it’s weird but 1st day of period is 1st day of pregnancy but when you actually conceive/ovulate you’re already 2 weeks pregnant.

ncforschoolhelp · 16/04/2025 12:44

How can people trying for children not know this?

mondaytosunday · 16/04/2025 12:49

@ncforschoolhelp I never knew that’s how they dated it and I’ve had two. I know exactly when I conceived (last period was on my honeymoon) so guess I ignored whatever weeks they put on anything, and never really tallied it up. People get obsessed about these details.

emmatcc1 · 16/04/2025 13:27

@ncforschoolhelp I never knew you can only get pregnant during ovulation until we started thinking about a family. During my ttc journey I learned so much that school doesn’t teach kids. But it’s actually so common for people to not know how pregnancy is counted and it’s a pain trying to explain to people that they didn’t find out they were pregnant at 1-2 weeks but they were already 3-4 weeks at that time.
