Hi all,

Anyone else with a 10 day luteal phase? Looking for success stories really! Or any tips with how to make it longer?

Thanks

I had a nine day luteal phase. I took vitamin B6 - as I recall it extended it a day or so (was a while back). I have two DC.

Mine is 11. Sooo many stories if you search Mumsnet/Reddit of people with 9/10dpo having no problems. Think 10 is the lower end of normal, under 10 can be an issue.

This was me. I spent two years trying for my first, and when the GP checked my hormone levels I had low progesterone. My periods were also very light. I took supplements (I think B6 but if you search there are usually recommendations, I can’t remember exactly what I used in the end). I also kept alcohol and caffeine reasonably low and put on a bit of weight, stopped exercising so much (I used to do a lot). It’s hard to say what exactly extended my cycle but it did extend by a couple of days and after a few months I got pregnant with my first. I had also had a chemical pregnancy a few months before which seemed to coincide with my periods getting heavier.

I definitely think it is worth having progesterone checked. The good news is that after having my first I fell pregnant with my second quickly.

good luck, I hope it happens for you soon.

Mine is usually 9, sometimes 10, sometimes as short as 8 or even 7, and I’ve always gotten pregnant fairly easily. Could never find any supplements that actually lengthened it (and I take A LOT)

Thank you all for your feedback. I'll have a look at some B6 supplements. I've also requested a check up with the doctors as have been trying a while with no success. Hopefully just been unlucky so far and coinciding with some stress.

I remember worrying about this as my luteal phase was never as long as ten days- it could be as short as six days. I tried acupuncture to lengthen it, but never found out if it lengthened my luteal phase as I had conceived. I conceived a second time without acupuncture.

My LP was always around 10 days too. It used to worry me a lot. But I've had 4 pregnancies and now have 2 children so in the end it didn't seem to prevent me getting pregnant. I also did acupuncture - it did lengthen my LP a bit and they were my 2 successful pregnancies when I had acupuncture. But that could just be coincidence.

Thanks for your response 😊 is it a special kind of acupuncture you went for? All I know is the little pins to put in muscles when they are bad after running!

The acupuncturist I saw did specialise in fertility. She worked privately but also for a fertility clinic a few days a week so I felt pretty confident she knew her stuff. Depending on where I was in my cycle she'd chose the best points to put needles in to help balance hormones etc. it was surprisingly very relaxing! It wasn't cheap but I never felt she was trying to fleece me by saying I needed to go every week (it used to work out about twice a month at different points in my cycle) and because it worked for me it felt like a good investment 😄. Both times I fell pregnant on the 3rd month of treatment.

Most women have implantation at 8-9 dpo. I had it at 7dpo both times so 10 days is plenty

Bells3032 · 14/03/2025 23:20

10 days is usually ok..under 9 is sometimes a problem. I had 8 and used progesterone which helped but had to go privately to get it as NHS wouldn't until I'd had three losses..

SummerSun24 · 15/03/2025 01:58

Didn't ovulation track for DC1 but with DC2 in had a 8 day and then 6 day LP before conceiving 3rd cycle so really wasn't an issue for me. Was taking vitamin b6 with a vitamin b complex but hard to tell if it did anything because I got pregnant. I looked into it a lot and my research showed that in the long run it did have a huge effect on conceiving due to variation in implantation
