Male factor due to low b12 affects sperm?

Wondered if anyone’s partner has had this, and whether they were able to resolve it? I’m wondering if it’s an issue for us. I know from googling that low b12 can cause temporary infertility but that hopefully raising b12 might resolve. I guess it just needs to be raised consistently rather than rising and dipping?

There's limited info in your post, but it sounds like you might be getting hung up on something a bit random and gone down a google rabbit hole.

How long have you been TTC and how old are you? Do you actually know whether he is deficient in B12, and have you both had tests/ fertility investigations?

Male fertility issues can stem from a huge number of different things (if there even is an issue - it can also just take time to conceive naturally).

So I think it could be all manner of things, and there’s things on my side that I think might be an issue, but he has had diagnosed low b12 and is being treated. Going to book a GP appt to discuss further as it’s been over a year - bur wondered about this and just the importance of partner being up to date with the jabs and not letting them lapse

I think you just need to talk to the doctor tbh and get some investigations done - it could be anything.

I really hope they find some answers (been through several years of it ourselves with male factor - it's often a complex variety of things) - good luck xx

how low is low? if it's slightly on the low side then yeah a bit of b12 and some healthy eating could probably do something. if it's well under normal parameters it probably won't

Fairly low and possible gut absorption issues so on injections. Hopefully the injections sort it out 🤞🏻

Definitely - it’s just from past experience the doctors can be v vague and not that interested in specifics. Like I raised something I feel is an issue, based on evidence, and she didn’t seem to know anything about it and dismissed. So feels helpful to have an understanding so you can go in armed with information when seeking more advice and investigation. Feels like trudging through mud! Xx

I do completely relate to this. However, there is also a lot of misinformation on the internet, especially on fertility forums, which isn't helpful.

Annoyingly, my experience with 5 years of fertility treatment is that you really have very little choice but to trust in your clinic.

If it makes you feel like you are doing something then taking loads of supplements is unlikely to do much damage (although it could be counterproductive), but if you start down this rabbit hole you will get all kinds of different advice from strangers - some from people who might know something, others that don't have a clue - but you won't really know who is who, and it's confusing. I've been there.

At the end of the day, the people who are really best placed are professionals. If you're not happy with your doctor or how they are talking to you, I recommend looking for a new doctor/ clinic until you find one you are happy with and feel like listens to you. That is what we had to do and it took us years, but we got there.

Mumsnet and Google really are total rabbit holes with fertility advice and you could end up spending a fortune and taking a whole host of supplements that actually do very little (I speak from experience!)
