When should a day 21 test be carried out with irregular periods

ttc 2nd dc but I have irregular periods so its very difficult to know when I should be having blood hormone tests.
Does anybody know when should the day 21 test be carried out in these circumstances my doctor seems so clueless on all of this.
I didn,t even realise until I looked on here that this is the test that determines if you ovulated or not.
You are talking to a complete novice on all of this and my doctor is not much help.
I would also be grateful if anybody knows if there is a test you can have done that tells you your egg reserve.

The test should be carried out 7 days after you ovulate.... not much help though if you don't know when that is ! I guess all they can do is take regular tests from the earliest point it could be until you get your period.

There is a blood test which is done dat 2-5 of your cycle which tests egg reserves (measures Lutenising Hormone and Follicle Stimulating Hormone).

My cycles were about 30-35 days so I booked the test in on day 24. How long are your cycles? Doctor said it was better to have had the test later in cycle than earlier as more chance of having ovulated. She also said they would try a few months in a row - so not to fret too much if first time around didn't work out to be on the right day.

Irregular periods are often caused by hormonal imbalances and these can be picked up through blood tests done in the cycle. Ultrasound scans (internal) can also be done to see what the ovaries look like to see if they are polycystic.

If periods are irregular the test can be done according to calendar days i.e the 3rd and 21st of the month. The day 21 is a standard test done to see if ovulation has occured or not that month. The day 3 should compare the level of LH to FSH.

If GP is clueless then a referral should be sought in any event.

LH and FSH are the hormones that kickstart the ovulation process; if these two hormone levels are out of sync this can cause problems with periods (i.e irregular periods) and ovulation (this will be affected too as a result of the hormone imbalances).
