6 day LH surge

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat here with a long gradual LH rise? Usually I rise and peak all within a few days.

I got my first opk LH postive (test line darker than control) 6 days ago. Every day since then I've tested twice a day, sometimes 3 times, and every test has been positive. The last test I took a few hours ago was the darkest yet. I understand you can have different surge types, short and fast/long and gradual but am I to assume I've not ovulated because I'm yet to see an LH decrease?

I had a miscarriage 1.5 years ago and the majority of my cycles have been irregular ever since. Were talking 23-80 day cycles, missed periods, delayed ovulation, mid cycle spotting. Some cycles were normal. Concerning and frustrating - I was like clockwork before and conceived my son very easily 3 years ago. We've been trying to get pregnant since the miscarriage and I'm now 41.

Would love to hear your stories 🙂

Very odd! I was hoping you were just pregnant and the LH strips were picking that up! Have you been to the GP yet? It might just be peri menopause which obviously you can't do anything about, but if it's not then you want to know. Not sure why your LH is so high - I've read that ovulation is often around 36 hours after the start of the rise (which ties in for most people with about 12-24 after the peak) so I guess all you can do is have sex as soon as you see it on the increase and hope for the best x

It could be possible that you have a lot more lh than the average, and therefore pucs up a false positive? It may he an idea to start bbt to confirm when ovulation has actually occurred to help identify your trend with lh strips.

Or like previous poster said, maybe perimeno and that's wreaking havoc with your cycles.

From my experiences my cycles change after each mc but they settle into a new trend within 3 months which makes me think your mc from 1.5 years ago isn't affecting your cycle now

Do you possibly have any pictures of your lh strip progression?

Isn't it odd. I've never had this type of LH surge before, it was all pretty textbook clear in my previous tracking.

I did get my bloods done last year when I didn't have a period for a few months, they all came back normal but I guess things may have changed since then. We've moved house fairly recently, I'm almost certain the stress has interfered with my hormonal balance but I feel ok mentally in the last month.

We've been having sex almost every day since I saw the first clue of a rise a week ago, ewcm was also present. So we have covered all the potential days for ovulation, and as you say, it's the best we can do with what we know!

I'm interested in some new data I was reading last night in a publication on science direct.com. Posted by another member here. It explained the varying types of surges different women have and that in some cases, ovulation happens BEFORE the LH rise, during the rise, at the peak, and between two peaks. And that the surge also takes up to 3 days to decrease to baseline. This could explain why some people are missing the mark by waiting to try only when they see the peak because we are routinely advised that ovulation happens shortly after that peak. When in this study of 107 women, their surges and ovulations followed different patterns and ovulation was only truly confirmed with their ultrasound.

Here's the article:

Hi ☀️

This would be the first time in 1.5 years (I didnt use opks before) that my LH levels are prolonged mid cycle like this. Could be perimeno, you're right, but I don't have any other symptoms. Bloods last year came back normal.

I did bbt for a while but just couldn't get into the swing of remembering every morning - especially when there's a toddler around! I guess I should make more of an effort, it's quite an easy minor task as soon as you wake.

My miscarriage really wrecked my balance I think. I waited weeks for my body to clear the anembryonic pregnancy by itself but in the end I had to have it surgically removed by D&C and it looks nearly 3 months for my period to return... and I've not been regular since. One cycle was 81 days!

I've attached a picture of the opks, there's a lot I know but I was testing 2-3 times a day in my disbelief! Now it's day 7 and the last test there at the bottom is 30 minutes old.

That is insane! I'm going to read the article. You posted previously also.

There must be so many little factors that are influencing the lh for this cycle.

Glad you've covered your bases with dtd though, sorry I've got not much else to suggest! The unknown of ttc is such a mind f* sometimes.
Fingers crossed you get some sort of regularity with it soon!

The article was so helpful for me to feel a little more forgiving about weird cycles. I hope it gives you some insight too!

Thank you. Where are you in your TTC journey?

Funnily enough, also an odd month with elongated lh. Mine wasn't such a huge surge as yours though and not positive (but my normal for the day before I peak) and absolutely due to stress and illness now just trying to tell myself I can hold out till af to test 🤣

How are you getting on? Any news?

This evening I found some light pink, watery blood. I'm about 5/6 dpo (but who the hell knows after that marathon LH surge) so I'm hoping this is a good sign and not just my wonky reproductive system being weird...
