Luteal Phase after Surgical Management

Last May I had a D&C of a MMC. I fell pregnant first cycle and my luteal phase was 12 days.

After the D&C I went on the pill until late Sept as I required counselling and struggled mentally.

I had a withdrawal bleed in Sept and first real period Oct. I’ve noticed my luteal phase is all over the place. Oct was 9 days, Nov was 11, Dec was 9, Jan was 11 and this month was 8!

Has this happened to anyone else and did it stabilise? I have had a stressful month with less sleep but I’m surprised it is changing each month. I’m using OPKs to confirm ovulation.

What concerns me is when googling it’s related to lining and obviously my lining would have taken a hit with the surgery and then perhaps the pill?

Hey Lovely,

I had a MMC & chose Surgical management April last year, so not to long before you.

Firstly, I'm so truly sorry for your lose and I hope you're coping ok. It's earth shattering and I really hope each day gets a little better for you ❤
Secondly, mine was the exact same. I wasn't able to start try again until June as I had complications. My cycles where way out and all over the place. I'll be honest, they only really started settling Dec and Jan.
If you're a month behind me, then yours should start settling soon.
However, I didn't go onto the pill and would assume that's also playing a part as its stops the hormones.

Ultimately, your body went through a massive trauma, physically and mentally. It will take time for your body to reset. Be kind to yourself, take your folic acid and try to not put pressure on it (so much easier said than done).

A little shining light, I think I had a positive test this morning, so there is hope. You will have your miracle one day

xx

@FirstTimer2024 oh congrats on your positive test and I wish you a smooth pregnancy x

This was a lovely reply to read. I think googling has scared me because it’ll say things should return to normal within 3 months etc which doesn’t seem to be the case for me.

Thanks for your kindness ❤️ I’m sorry you had to go through that too.

I don’t think I have a ashermans because I’m bleeding heavily despite my periods being shorter. But it does scare me a little.

I go on holiday soon and I’m hoping that relaxes me!

Thank you. It was a faint line, so I'm not 100% sure and will re test tomorrow...I try to remain level headed and not get carried away!

Googling is the worst, I did the same. 3 months is best case scenario and it doesn't concern different bodies and variables. As long as you're not continuously bleeding and don't have any sharp or severe pain, it sounds perfectly normal.

Thank you ❤️ aw I hope you have a lovely holiday, it will do you the world of good to disconnect and fully relax! Xx

@FirstTimer2024 ah I hope that line keeps getting darker for you 🤞

Thats a relief. I didn’t even have a bleed after the surgery, so it was just surgery then pill back to back until Sept because my close relative was diagnosed with terminal illness and I just couldn’t cope with the loss, being a support to my family and also the TTC rigmarole. I hope my body just needs longer.

Thanks, it feels needed!

@Couchtattie I can't remember re luteal phase but just wanted to reassure you as I was where you are this time last year. MMC at 12 week scan and it was completely devastating, had surgical management too with very minimal bleeding afterwards. My periods were SO light and short afterwards. I did fall pregnant again after 3 cycles of trying and I'm now 36 weeks so I wanted to give you that positive story as I googled relentlessly about everything! Periods were so wonky and I was convinced I had ashermans or that something was just wrong. I think the fact you've gone back on the pill will be mucking your cycles up a little so give your body a couple of months to get into the swing of things. Wishing you lots of luck 🩷
