Did you know ibuprofen isn’t recommending when TTC as affects fertility?

I suffer from painful periods and had no idea! Take ibuprofen every period, but Dr said it’s not recommended and I did some research when home. Feels a bit cruel when TTC to not be able to use the painkiller that tends to help the most when your period arrives 🙈 think paracetamol and aspirin fine. Thought I’d share in case useful to anyone else!

I was also worried about this as I have suspected endometriosis and had a long battle with fertility, resulting in us needing three rounds of IVF. I spoke with my fertility doctor about it. He said ibuprofen during your period for pain relief is fine. The problem is taking around ovulation (can mess with and delay ovulation) and around conception can disrupt the uterine lining in some people and cause implantation failure/early miscarriages, which is why you're told not to take it from the moment you know you're pregnant.

So I continued to take it for period pain, stopped as early as I could manage and then took none for the rest of the month. My doctor was happy with that. I think it's one of those 'unknown' things where nothing is certain, but my doctor also said that my body being in that much pain was equally not good for other things that also cause problems with TTC- excessive stress from the pain for example.

I’ll have a look! I’m trying to work out if short term use is an issue or just longer term. Nice guidance says: “Caution—long-term use of some NSAIDs is associated with reduced female fertility, which is reversible on stopping treatment.” But unsure if that means regularly using on a monthly basis, or say taking daily.

Thanks that’s really helpful! I believe I have a thin lining, and hormones out of whack, so just cautious about making anything worse.
