TTC with underactive thyroid

Hi,
I have been TTC for a year now with nothing but an early miscarriage at the beginning of last year. I had some day 21 bloods done at my doctors and they diagnosed me with an underactive thyroid, my TSH was very high (over 200) so they started me on 125mg of Levothyroxine. They are hopeful this is what has been preventing me conceiving, and have said once my thyroid is stable I should be able to conceive again.
I was just wondering, does anybody have any success stories of conceiving after sorting their thyroid issues out? And any timelines on how long it took?
Thank you :)

I do, but I tweaked other things at the same time so couldn’t conclusively say it was the thyroid.

I had had 4 previous losses. Then started taking Levothyroxine in October 2023, and fell pregnant in December. Unfortunately this baby was another miscarriage- baby had a chromosome issue. Then fell pregnant in May 2024 and I’m currently 39 weeks.

As soon as I started taking the Levothyroxine I definitely felt better in myself within a couple of weeks - less tired, less brain fog etc. My husband also had varicocele surgery in December 2023 so the baby we conceived in May 2024 potentially had the benefit of better quality eggs from me given improved thyroid and better quality sperm. It’s hard to know if one of those on their own was the key differentiator.

My thyroid has been monitored throughout pregnancy and I’ve needed to increase Levothyroxine as the pregnancy progressed.

That’s so useful to know, thank you!
And congratulations on your pregnancy 💕

Hello, following this as am now in a similar situation, with a TSO of 144 and six previous first-trimester losses.

Absolutely I was ttc for about two years before starting levothyroxin (I was borderline at the time tbf). Anyway I was pregnant within about six weeks and then when it came to conceiving dc2 (still taking the levo) I got pregnant first cycle.

if you get pregnant you will likely need “consultant-led care” but this never amounted to more than a couple of extra appointments and blood tests and had no bearing at all on delivery. That’s not the case for everyone underactive, obviously

best of luck

Of course I can’t be sure that it was a factor at all but I absolutely believe it was

I had my existing children before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. So this is all new to me. I’m currently on 175mg and have been waiting for a blood test to check if that’s doing the job.
