Hi,

Need help!!

I've got a 1 year old daughter I fell pregnant pretty fast with her as well and starting to try for baby no2 I had a c section with my daughter as had preeclampsia and the surgery went amazing!!I've heard from multiple different women who have said that it's more difficult conceiving with a second baby if you've had a c section??

Is this true? I know every women is different but just wanted some advice

I had a c section with my first baby who is over 2 now. I fell pregnant first cycle with baby one and I’m almost 20wks pregnant with baby 2 and fell pregnant on cycle 2, so having a c section didn’t affect me personally but everyone is different!

Hi, I have a 3.5 year old and had a c-section with her due to pre-eclampsia and labour not progressing. I just got my positive after 5 months of TTC #2

I had a C-section for baby one, and have struggled to conceive a second... although, there are SO many factors that go into that so I wouldn't necessarily link it directly to have had a c-section.

I can understand why you'd want to know if it's impacted your chances, but everyone is different and there are so many variables that go into getting pregnant that it'd be so difficult to isolate the impact of your c-section.

How can a c section make it difficult having more babies? I was never told this when I had to have a c section for the future?

I think it may have something to do with scar tissue however I dont think it’s proven and most people who have a c section will go on to have more children. My friend had 3 kids and 3 sections and no issues. Fertility, every time you try, is a roll of the dice regardless of whether or not you had a c section. You often hear about people who struggle for years to have kids, finally have one then fall pregnant immediately afterwards or people who fall pregnant quickly struggle to have a second even if they had a vaginal birth. Nothing is guaranteed.

I had an emergency C-section with my first. Once we decided to start trying for our second it took 3 months to get pregnant. Age gap of just under 3 years.

Other than damage caused during the first C-section to the ovaries or the uterus, I can't imagine why having a previous CS would cause issues with fertility.

Are you sure you haven't misunderstood? I was told after my first C-section to avoid getting pregnant for at least 6 months as your body needs time to heal and a pregnancy so soon before the body has healed causing potential issues like nerve damage & hernias.

That's what I mean I was never told that it would affect my fertility if I had a c second but quite a lot of women have said that they've struggled a lot to no 2 due to having c sections!

My section went amazing and they didn't say there were any issues regarding the surgery

Both of my pregnancies took 8 months to conceive each and I had an emcs at 10cm.

You conceived quickly first time and you may conceive quickly again, it may take 10 months. However long it takes to conceive on your first try has no reflection on subsequent tries, it's complete random pot luck.

ThelastRolo20 · 28/01/2025 16:51

I conceived my first within 3 months and she was delivered by c section, then when she was 18 months old we started trying for baby 2 and unfortunately had two back to back MMCs before becoming pregnant with my now 2 week old.

The only thing I've heard with sections is there's a chance that a "niche" is formed - essentially a small hole/ pocket internally which holds fluid each menstrual cycle which can be toxic for a new embryo. Some women need treatment for a niche before conceiving again - accompanying symptoms can be spotting mid cycle etc.

I never had any niche symptoms and of course went on to have another successful pregnancy so I'm none the wiser as to whether my section impacted my two miscarriages x

I had a c-section with my toddler and am currently 5 weeks pregnant with baby 2. This one was conceived first try. Obviously it’s still early days for the pregnancy, but I fell straight away and know plenty who have had c-sections who have multiple children. You’re not less likely to conceive, there are slightly higher risks of things like ectopic and intrauterine rupture, but a lot of these risks are mitigated by waiting a year or two between pregnancies to let your uterus fully heal. The risks are also increased the more c-sections you have, as is the risk of scar endometriosis with multiple c-sections. Unless you are wanting a large family the risks are minimal.

Did you fall pregnant quickly with first baby? I only want one more baby& now I've convinced myself I won't be so lucky this time :(

you might not be as lucky this time but its most likely nothing to do with your section. Fertility is a game of chance every time.
I have been very lucky - baby 1 first try, section, currently pregnant with 2nd baby conceived second month of trying.

You never know your fertility till you start trying.

Baby 1 was a total happy accident, so I can’t say how long it took as it just happened! So it was quick that’s for certain, but I can’t say how long it would have taken if I’d been actively trying.

Can’t speak for myself as I have only just started trying for #2 (C-section 3.5 years ago and have never heard of this) BUT my friend has had 3 sections (last preg was twins) and every pregnancy was unplanned 🤷🏻‍♀️ so clearly never affected her chances.
