PCOS diagnosis

Hey everyone,

Hoping for some advice! How did people get their PCOS diagnosis?

Basically, when we had our initial tests done through the NHS the results I got were pretty much "it might be PCOS, might not" not very helpful, fast forward 12 months to our first IVF cycle, when I was scanned before the round the consultant said yes it was PCOS so I've spent the last year thinking that's what I have... Yesterday we started the ball rolling for round 2 IVF with a different clinic and when I was scanned the lady said she doesn't think I have PCOS just a high follicle count, 27 each side... So now I'm like what on earth!! Do I have it do I not, I don't really know what difference it would make at this point but it would just be nice to know! Confused!

Thanks

The diagnosis criteria is having 2 out of the following 3:
Cysts
Signs of high male hormone levels and/or blood test showing this
Irregular periods/not ovulating

So you can have the diagnosis without having cysts.

If you already have one symptom other than cysts then it seems like a difference in medical opinion and you will have to ask someone to clarify!

If you can't get a definitive answer (you should be able to!) just assume you do have it? If you don't have hugely problematic PCOS with lots of symptoms, then all you need to do is maintain a healthy weight. This makes a huge difference to PCOS.
Lots of women also take inositol, which is very helpful in controlling your insulin response, and won't hurt you if you don't have PCOS either.

Thanks both for your responses! My cycles used to be all over the place anything from 35 days - 60 days but the last few months I've been taking Maca Root and Myo-inositol which has seemed to regulate them more and I can pin point when I ovulate x

If the inositol has helped regulate your cycles, sounds like PCOS.
Just keep taking the inositol and lose weight if you need to. It will likely become pretty much asymptomatic at that point (not everyone obviously, but most).

I was diagnosed from having a chin full of acne, and being overweight. They did blood tests which were all fine apparently.
And an ultrasound, which show lots of cysts.

For me. I was diagnosed by: hormone blood test was bad. Had an ultrasound and they found 12 cysts on each ovary. I also had 3 periods in 12 months.

I followed the book the natural solution to pcos. Lived in the gym, did low GI diet. 6 months later lost weight and my hormones were back to normal.

Then accidentally got pregnant with my first child, then 4 months after she was born accidentally got pregnant again. As in I wasn't on birth control as I was told unlikely to have children. But wasn't being careful as we were trying for 1.5 years.

Don't give up hope! Focus on weight loss, health eating and understanding when you ovulate. As your discharge, dates will be different to non pcos people. My Dr also said ovulation tracking doesn't work for pcos as we have higher levels of hormones etc so said focus on discharge.

Sending positivity as I wish someone did to me when I was diagnosed!
