Hi everyone, I guess I am looking for any positive stories or encouragement for people over 40 that have been successful getting pregnant. I am having a fertility freak out!😫 For a number of reasons myself and my husband only felt ready to start trying for a baby 2 months ago and now I am so anxious that we have left it too late. I am worried about early menopause as I went through puberty at age 9. Does anyone have experience of this? My husband has a low sex drive so we are only able to have sex once or twice during the fertile window which also limits our chances. I went to get my AMH levels tested and I should get the results of those tomorrow but can't help fearing the worst. My doctor has organised for me to get my FSH and progesterone measured on day 21 of this cycle. We have both started taking Impryl supplements. I've noticed my periods have been shorter and lighter and a darker colour the last 2 cycles too but I was on work/uni placement there for 2 months which was extremely stressful so I am wondering if that maybe affected those and it's not perimenopausal symptoms. It's just very overwhelming the start of the fertility journey and the sudden realisation that i might be too old now! Do we keep trying naturally for a few months or start looking at private fertility clinics which looks like a minefield. Thanks so much for reading! Any advice at all would be appreciated. X

40 isn’t too old. Lots of folks having babies at 40 now. Wait for the results from doc and take it from there.
You and your husband might need to work on the sex frequency to maximise your chances is you really want to conceive.

Lots of us a similar age 😊 I’m ttc my second and I’m 40 in September.
Fertility is individual and age is just one factor.

There are insemination kits if sex is too pressured - might be an option if low sex drive is an issue as ttc sex can be kind of tricky and become a bit stressful at the best of times. Health for both of you is vital - read ‘it starts with the egg’ for more on optimal health to conceive.

Look into induced super ovulation with cycle tracking. Then you'd know exactly when to DTD.

Hello. I had my first and only child aged 39. I also had similar worries about early menopause as my mum went through it in her early 40's.

I had the blood test mentioned and was told that my fertility was slightly lower than the average 38/39 year old but we still did conceive rather quickly

I found the sex side of it difficult. Much more sex than I'd have liked to be honest ha ha. We used the sperm meets egg method which worked but could have been a coincidence.

Good luck with it all. It's worth it in the end xx

It would be worth checking what your NHS IVF options are where you live, some areas you can only get treatment up to the age of 40, although you might be too late to be eligible depending on wait lists.

Best of luck OP.

I had my first at 37 and I'm now 30+3 at age 42!

My cycles went haywire after 40 - very long and irregular - and I had all the symptoms of perimenopause. I didn't even take a test until cd56 as I was so used to my periods being late or not coming at all. We'd pretty much given up on having another baby but I'm walking proof that it can and does happen.

Hey OP, I’m 42 😬 and still trying to conceive first baby. Like you I only felt ready (still not sure) post 40, are you testing for ovulation?

I fell pregnant last summer in what appears to be perfect timing, but miscarried. I see the next couple of months as my last chance really! As others have said though, lots of women get pregnant post 40 🤞 for you.

I’d definitely look into your NHS IVF options sooner rather than later, as they vary depending where you live.
